Wes, I think most of them are ending up in the higher end of the weight range due to the nose weight necessary. I suspect mine will be closer to 17-18 pounds when finished but we'll see. The G-38 seems to be the most popular choice for a gasser and provides plenty of power, or so I've read.

Wes, I purchased a used one that was originally film covered. The basic airframe was well built but it did have some hangar rash so I pulled it down and did a complete refurb. Among other things I did get rid of the film covering and refinished with glass and resin. I thought about adding the flaps but decided I might never get it done if I started cutting into the airframe. As it is now I've got way too much time invested in what is essentially a weekend flyer! I'm putting the rivets on the fuse now and then it will be ready for paint.

I`ve just sold my CMPro AT-6 which is very similar in size to the Midwest version - I have a NIB kit for one gathering dust in the workshop and intend to build it sometime. My CMPro verion weighed in at 16lbs and flew nicely with a Zenoah G-26.

I intend to use the same engine on the Midwest one. My concern that a bigger engine will be heavier and that will start stacking up against it all. The first Midwest AT-6 I saw was powered with an 'old' ST 2500 and that seemed to be a good match.....

Hope this helps......

My Midwest Texan has a OS 120 four stoke in it. I have two flights on it and the 120 has more than enought power. The plane weighs 16 lbs. with 2lbs. of nose weight.

Hey Chad nice AT-6.
Can you tell are the Horizontal tail feathers are airfoiled? I purchased a Fiberglass fuse AT-6 and it has a flat tail surface. I,d like to go with a more scale set of tail feathers.
Its a project that I,ve been working on for some time here and there. So now is the time to attch the horizontal surfaces and I just can,t bring myself to install the provided set.
Oh by the way I,m going with a BH Hanson G-26 for this bird.

thx
Dave

DLEVETT, the tail surfaces on the Midwest Texan are flat just as they are on your T-6. Had I built the airplane originally I would have changed them to a scale airfoil section as it is simple to do and adds a great deal to the scale look.

Thanks Chad.
Okay then, I,m thinking I,ll cut some holes into the existing frame work of the elevators to lighten things up. Then just add some balsa ribs to the stab and elevators sand them to a slight airfoil shape and recover with a balsa skin.
Any thoughts?
thx
Dave
