This is my first and only transmitter. It's been bullet proof for years till now. Three times now on hot days after sitting face up in the sun on a starting table, my transmiter has developed a massive glitching problem. At full right aileron the throttle, rudder and eleveator servos all go to full (whichever direction) as well. This is not jittering this is not interference. The controls will repeat the glitch everytime full right aileron is applied. At home, I'm assuming after cooling off, everything works lovely.

The first time this happened a violent ground loop cost me a prop. The second time I noticed it out on the runway as I did a final control check. Today it happened on the starting table. I was able to correct the problem the second time by restoring the default setting on that model number. I flew two flights and everything was fine. This time it did not help. Nothing corrected the problem till I got home.

Has this happened to anyone else?

PS I've not yet had time to check and see if keeping the transmitter under cover would help

Yes, heat will effect any computerised transmitter same as your mobile phone etc. Responses to a recent similar post:
Flash 5 System X transmitter: spontaneously changed settings on a model
Computerised transmitters should never be left with LCD screen exposed to the sun. All LCD screens, irrespective of appliance, may blank or black out, this appears to normalise after the screen has been sheltered in a cool place for some time, with each such exposure leading to fading of the screen which will eventuelly become hard to read.

Thanks,

I'll try keeping it under cover next time out and see if that helps. Thinking back this maybe the first time in the 4-5 years I've owned the thing that it's ever had this much sun exposure.

What receiver are you using? I had a problem with an early run Hitec Electron receiver going full deflection after sitting in the sun on a hot day.

The receiver is a several year old electron 6 now that you mention it........but with the wing on and the receiver shaded by it, I wouldn't think the receiver would get all that hot........

I'm going to try keeping the tranny in the shade and I'll also take a spare receiver just in case......

I would suggest you send the receiver in and let us check it out.

Mike.

Thanks Mike, I'll see about doing that. Is it more likely the receiver than the transmitter? The receiver is older but it's never been crashed, folded, spindled or otherwise molested ......

You can send both if you like to be on the safe side, but it's most likely the RX.

Mike.

upon further "field testing" I believe the receiver is the issue. I replicated the problem today with the electron 6 receiver that I had been having problems with and replaced the receiver with another electron 6 from another model I had. The problem went away even with extended sun exposure on both the transmitter and model.

Thanks,
Rich Bertacchi
