Well I've bought my first RC car in years - the Losi Mini-LST.

As I'll just be bashing about the yard or oval with my boys I figured the FM Tx/Rx would be fine - I use 2.4Ghz on my heli's tho!

I've ordered the viscous metal diff conversion to eliminate the plastic diff issue as well as some heat sinks, a spare 7.2V 1600mAh NiMH pack and some some leads to make my own packs. I own plenty of chargers!

Prices for stock parts here in Australia seem pretty expensive compared to the US, so my question is are there any parts that commonly break/bend that I should go ahead & get now (stock or upgrades) rather than spend a relative fortune on freight later?

Any help or advice appreciated
Cheers,
ROB!

I would get suspention arms, c-hubs, and steering blocks ( I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terms for the parts, but basicaly the parts in the front suspention). I have never broken any of these parts but I've heard of some that have.Other than that, maybe an axle and extra wheel nuts.

Thanks for the tip - I'll see if I can get a few of those spares added to me order - would you go stock or alum. upgrade?
Who is your preferred supplier?

I bought a mini-LST2 for my 13 year old son and a mini-LST for me about two weeks ago... we have broken one A-arm, and 1 axle and bent 3 axles and 1 dogbone (which I straightened) and stripped one spur gear. So at the moment, I'd recommend a spare set of A-arms ($4 US) and a spur gear set ($4 US) and either a set of axles ($4 US) or upgrade to CVDs (I'm told MIP makes the best ones, but they are relatively expensive $20 US for 2) Extra body clips! ($2 US) I cannot keep track of them. Probably worthwhile to get an extra set of knuckles and hubs (although I'm going to get the MLST2 version LOSB0913 ($5 US), which eliminates the turnbuckle on the back)

I'm not convinced about aluminum suspension parts - they look nice, but the stock plastic parts seem fairly tough, are lighter, and are relatively cheap. We've jumped and bashed pretty hard and all the breaks and bends have been crashes into sides of jumps or the other car or cement steps, with many crashes with no damage. Overall I'm pretty happy with the cars toughness, although if I were doing it again I'd buy two MLST2s rather than one of each, just for the better radio and the metal diffs.

I would stock up some servo gears.

if you want, before you play with it take all the plastic parts off and boil them. it makes them more flexible so they dont break as easy.

haha why dont you just take the electronics out and the aluminum/metal peices and just boil the whole truck!

Thanks for all the replies guys.
The Mini-LST arrived yesterday so we charged up the batt and had a quick run yesterday - man this thing is fast! Crikey - my boys can find & hit any solid oject in the vicinity of where we run this truck - it might get a pretty hard life!

Since I ordered my extras from Hopmeup who do 'ship 6 items for the price of one' I added a CVD Driveshaft upgrade & a servo gear set to the order of viscous diff, spare batt, batt leads & heat sinks. I might look at upgrading to JR 241 servo's and adding upgraded hubs, upper/lower A-arms and steering arms. I know this will add weight, but making the thing tough rather than fast is the aim! Maybe I should boil the plastic parts first and see if that makes them robeust enough for the boys - my main concern with the alum. parts is that it will put more strain on the servo gears...

Do people still run-in their brushed motors or are the Losi units pretty much ready to go?

watch your servos!!!! everyone has a problem with them, usuaslly after about 10 runs they take a truns for the worst, also i wouldn't buy aluminum because instead of breaking it just bends and bends more stuff

The CVD's are just as weak as the stock stubb axels , buy some GPM titanium stubb axels and use the stock dogbones .

I have tried EVERY brand of CVD's and NONE of them held up too heavy jumping/bashing , I havent snapped and axel since I put them on .

Dont do alloy a arms , but C hubs and steering knuckles are a good idea . I have only broken a shock tower once from landing on the lid from 6+ ft in the air .

If youre gonna go brushless then I recommend getting an MIP center diff too handle the power , the stocker wont last long and if you lock it your gonna start stripping the gears in the diff .

Gee – I was hoping the CVD’s would take a bit more punishment than the stock axles – oh well maybe it’ll be smoother & that’ll be a bit gentler on other parts. Thanks for the tip on the suspension arms – I’ll just look at alloy C hubs & knuckles and boil the stock arms. I’ll look at that MIP centre diff also!

Many thanks for all the help & advice guys!

Well, we smashed up a wheel (magneto) on the Mini-LST so it was a good excuse to get some other goodies

- LOSB0968 MINI-ZOMBIE TIRES w/WHEELS x 4
- DYN2832 LOSI MINI-LST 5 PIECE TOOL SET
- LOSB1048 BODY CLIPS (10)
- DYNAMITE DYN8253 STEERING ARM SET (alloy)
- DYN8252B LOSI MINI-LST F/R C-HUBS (alloy)
- LOSB0908 FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION A-ARMS (stock plastic)
- LOSB0920 WHEEL/SHOCK NUT & WASHER SET
- LOSB0816 B0816 MS20DS SERVO GEAR SET
- ABC 70016 MINI 7.2V 7.2 VOLT CONNECTOR PLUG (DIY batt pack)

So it's been suggested to boil the plastic parts - what is the standard proceedure?
Add parts to boiling water, leave for 5 min and then air dry/cool or is there somethinmg more sophisticated required?

Any suggestions appreciated!

To eliminate the need for body clips i jsut put some velcro on the inside of the body and some on the chassis. So it sticks nicely with no body clips.

And i hate the sound of the car dropping with the body lose

This was on detta. Not sure if it would work with the mlst

I doesn't work worth a crap. The body is too curved and the chassis doesn't have flat enough sides to stick any velcro to. But it works on many other minis and micros.
