im gonna start on an airboat project after my 1/8 brushless conversion, im wanting to use a ducted fan, brushless system, feather lite servos, and 7.2v nimh. i already have a boat that im wanting to convert, i'll get pics soon, and im guessing that its 24" long. i have no idea how to steer it, mount the ducted fan, and what material should i use to build the radio box, wood perhaps. so if you have any ideas post.

hmm.. 24" you say?

Thats the same length as mine, I would say to make it a bit shorter if possible (maybe not because you allready have a hull)

one thing for sure - the battery will be your biggest head ache in the quest to build a light and fast boat. get a lipo in there if money allows.

waiting for pics

...perfect timing

first, I think it is a bit narrow for its length (although I may be mistaken)

most people use a flat bottom for airboats, I don't know if thats because the V hulls don't plane properly or what...
for steering, use a water rudder to start out with, they offer better turning and less slide than air rudders. I don't really know how big (or powerful) your ducted fan is, so can't really help with that, I would guess to bolt it on to the top of the boat, instead of the wing out back.

The higher you place the fan, the more unstable your boat will be - keep that in mind

the idea with air boats is to make them light, especially if you are using electric to power them

the electronics compartment can be made out of wood, then sealed with epoxy or some type of urethane.

Good luck, If it works out, the boat will be very cool looking!
