So I am back in business. Still have to adjust the settings Eric gave me to stop the idle ramp splutter.

Mav

What settings are those?

My Falcon has a slight splutter the moment you apply throttle from idle. It then spools fine and no other issues. Eric describe this as possibly the accel delay set to high at low rpm and raw fuel is momntarily dumped causing a splutter from idle. He has given me some settings to try. Are you having a similar issue? I have my ECU set to Linear and was wondering if this is part of the problem. What do others set the throttle to (Linear or expo on ECU???)

Also the FOD screen - who makes it? I am in need of a FOD screen that fits..... a very tall order around here as none of the usual stores have anything that even remotely looks like it might fit.

If you don't want to make your own, Tam sells one or Dreamworks probably sells Tam's.

Hey Dan,
I'm in the process of making up some FOD screens for the Artes jet turbine range of engines, they should be available in the not too distant future, here's a sample photo of one for the Super-Bee, the others will be similar, I just have to do some testing to make sure the mass airflow through the screen is acceptable in the higher rpm ranges.
I will try to make it easy to fit and easily removable, so servicing of the starter and FOD inspection of the compressor wheel will not be an issue.

Cheers,
Smithy.

Hey Brett,

Very nice. When will the Falcon screen be available????

I see you are testing mass air flow for best screen mesh size. Do you think there will be any loss of thrust??

Keep up the good work.

Hey Chris,
The Falcon screens "should hopefully" be available in a month or so, I'm still nutting out the design and I will need to submit my design to Rob (Ausjets.com) and get approval from Eric and Felipe prior to release to the public. Customer safety is the primary issue here, as it should be!

At this stage I don't see any major loss of thrust, possibly ~2% or so and maybe ~10-20 degree C increase in EGT's across the rpm range, but I've yet to complete my testing so I shall have to "stand corrected" for the time being! It should be noted that any FOD screen will affect the mass airflow characteristics on most turbine engines in some way, albeit minor and it's not only the mass flow I'm looking at, inlet flow direction changes must also be taken into consideration, just bunging a screen on the front isn't always the right way to do things.

We must also be mindful not to do any modifications to these engines which will be detrimental to the engine mechanics and/or it's "safe" running. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Smithy.

Pics were not showing up today?

Yes, a FOD screen should be 'type approved' so that there are no warranty issues from Jet Central/Artes. I contacted Todd, and he was out of them, so there are none to be found, but maybe Tam has some - not sure. As mine is mounted high on the Velox, I am not too worried just yet, but it may go in a Jet Legend Tutor for next year and I would prefer to have a FOD screen when installed in a fuse.

Keep us posted on development/approval.

Dan

We are currently testing a stronger mesh, as the original sagged somewhat. A falcon is shipping to us this week as one of our Demo engines.
Prior to this it will be the test bed for the final FOD design. Brett and I will update you as we move forward.
We have preliminary approval from Eric based on our initial design.

p.s. We also now have MC-9 plugs in stock for any who may need one. $11.00 inc shipping via Regular Post in Australia..

Regards,
Rob
