All of a sudden, I cannot get the start gas to light??? Had about 15 starts with no problem and now gas will not ignite.

I changed nothing since the last run??? OK have checked and tested the plug no problem. So I changed plug OS number 8 with a brand new one teased the filament and no problem. Checked gas before and after solenoid no problem. Tried running the gas direct (bypass solenoid) no go. changed ECU gas setting from 40 to 95 in increments no go???

Charged my 2 cell 3000 ma 25c pack no go.

Changed gas bottle to a new one no go???

Cycles up to 4500 rpm then times out each time?????

Totally run out of ideas. I have emailed Eric who I am sure will reply as his service is exceptional, however thought I would post for the benefit of others!

Hey Mav,

Check to make sure the little gas restrictor just downstream of the gas filter in the yellow gas tube isn't blocked, they're very tiny and doesn't take much for them to block up, let us know how you get on.

The Falcon should light up nicely with a gas % of ~45-55% if it's a cold day you may have to increase this a bit to get a nice EGT temp increase due to the pressure drop in your gas can, experiment a little at a time. The Falcon should be "on the pump" by the end of the second start cycle.

Eric is traveling at the moment so it may take a day or two for him to reply.

Cheers,
Smithy.

Mavrik!

Did you read the following thread, I had a falcon that was a couple of years old and the restricter orifice was a bit too small, Jet central sent me a new one and tne problem was solved.
Are you starting on propane?
Is your glow plug filament pulled out as far as you can get it?

Smithy,

I checked the filter and seemed fine. Is there another restrictor in the yellow tube? I will have a look. I did try by passing the gas solenoid with no luck.

Rich,

Is it best to pull the filiment out as far as you can?? I guess I could drag it out about an extra 1 mm.

Using coleman butane/propane mix. This worked fine for 15 plus starts?

Glow set at 28. nything above gives a glow overload reading on ECU.

It is probably somehting simple, but this has got me beat?

I should also add that the Falcon only ever lit on the second cycle when it did light!!!!!

Again ecu settings when it did light were glow 28 gas about 70.

Mavrik,

Like the others mentioned above there is a restrictor in the line after the filter, disconnect the line between the turbine and the filter and see if you can blow through it. Since you bypassed the solenoid and it still didn't work, it sounds like one of the two things that the others mentioned i.e. either the glow-plug element isn't pulled-out far enough or the restrictor is plugged.

Jim,

OK will try this.

I can see the gas filter, where does the restrictor live?

Mav,
Yes you want to get the filament out as far as possible.
I'm at work at the moment when I get home I will check the glow plug settings on my ECU.

If you pull the plug and test it so you can see the filament it should almost be white hot in color when it pulses.

p.s. I uses Mcoys MC-9's or Rossi 8's

Rich,

OK I will yank it as far as possible. I pulled it out and ran a cycle and it glows yellow, not quite white hot. Using OS number 8. ECU is 28 as anything over that causes glow overload ecu reading!

Mav,

The restrictor should be in line between the filter and the turbine. Take a look at your manual and you will see where it should be located. The restrictor is already installed in the line with the filter when you purchase your turbine.

too much wind can also make it hard to startup.

An easy way to determine if the gas restrictor is plugged is to disconnect the gas line just before the engine. Hold your finger just in front of the line and initiate the start sequence. You should feel a light puff of gas. If you don't the restrictor may be plugged.

Just remove the line with the restrictor in it, connect it to your Powermax can in the opposite direction of normal flow, and squeeze the trigger to blow out any debris.

Mav,
you may want to switch brands of glow plugs, my ECU is set for 45, I believe it is either a Rossi #8 or a MC-9.

I have a Falcon as well. Two things you will want to try.

1st, that OS8 plug isn't going to work reliably in there. Trust me I've tried. I use MC-9 plugs in mine which work great. Rossi 8's should also work well.

2nd, make sure that restrictor isn't clogged. That has happened on mine a time or two as well.

I also use a McCoy #9 in my Falcon with the glow parameter set to 32. One thing critical on this engine is that the glow element needs to be pulled WAY out. You should have two loops pulled completely outside of the plug, further than you would for other turbines.
