Hello everyone,

After many flights, I dumb thumbed my Aeroworks Yak 90-120 QB and ripped the gear out in a severe way and have decided not to re-build. I enjoyed this model in general, but never found the performance I wanted with the OS 1.20 AX. (You can read my build thread and flight reports on this forum.) I am selling off some of the parts here on RCUniverse. Wings, elevator, wing-bags, and canopy.

I am now researching the Aeroworks Yak 75CC as my next model. I have had good luck with DA-engines and would like to put a DA-85 on the front of it. I have a DA-50 on an Airwild Extra 260 that was bought used, but built by a professional builder. The motor has been an excellent performer and I am very happy with it.

I emailed Aeroworks asking for advice on this. Specifically, how to mount it. The manual does not show instructions for mounting that particular engine on that particular airframe.

I like the QB series a lot. The crew at Aeroworks really works hard to make sure we don't mess up the assembly. I have very limited time to build and fly in general with a new baby in the house and e an insane work schedule from now till the end of the year, I just don't think it will mbe

Not to mention, I'm just not very good at (building/assembling) and always seem to be missing or wanting a tool I don't have. Drill press, anyone? Yikes!

I thought I would pose the same question to this forum that I emailed Aeroworks about last night:

Has anyone successfully mounted a DA-85 to this airframe and would you please post any advice, pictures, notes, build threads from this or other sites (please PM me if the links won't post correctly) or other research material to this thread at your convenience on what might be involved? I was unable to find anything specifically about this engine and airframe browsing and searching here and other sites, but I know a few of you are quite active in this and many other forums.

Thank you to the Aeroworks community for helping each other,

Vahn

I have this plane with a ZDZ Super 80 on it and it has insane power to weight ratio! You will love it and with the DA-85 it will be like the space shuttle, unlimited vertical. As far as mounting the DA-85 you can mount it on the spacers supplied by AW in the kit, the reason DA will tell you not to mount the engine on spacers is that so people will mount it uneven and that will cause stress on the crankcase. All you need to remember is that your spacers should be equal in lenght all four of them and you should have not problems. You can download a template of the DA-85 from a website or maybe it even comes with the engine, someone on here will know where you can find it. I think it will be a great combo, the plane flies like its on rails and lands like a trainer. You will not be sorry you bought it.

Vahn,
I would be interested in the wing bags if still available.

PM me and we can negotiate.

Vahn,

Lot's of us out there with this set up, it's the BEST. You get the DA-85 Engine mount and mounting template with the ARF, no-brainer.
Took 10 hours to assemble it, very happy with this Plane and Company.

Hi Ward and others,

Thanks for this note. I read the manual as downloaded from the site and didn't see anything specific about a mounting template for the DA-85, so I am really glad to hear this is part of the package. That was the question I asked Aeroworks (...had you updated the package to including mounting instructions for the DA-85). Since the plane is older than the DA-85, it doesn't seem as though the (downloadable) manual had been updated to include this info.

Hopefully, Aeroworks will get back to me and confirm the same.

I am very excited that people have this combo and are pleased with it.

I hate being that guy that posts a question that has been answered a dozen or more times already, but it is a big internet with lots of competing forums where Aeroworks owners and giant-scale plane flyers hang out, so 4-5 hours of searching and reading forums doesn't guarantee you will find the answers to a very specific question.

I appreciate all of you taking the time to reply to my post.

Hey guys,

Has any of you installed a tune pipe and not just a canister on the DA-85? I can't seem to find the exact tune pipe I need for this engine. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.
