Hey guys, I have a Super Tigre .61 Ring engine from a plane I crashed a couple weeks ago and I was looking for a replacement. It was in a 4*60, but the ARF price or building a kit is more money than I want to spend right now. I saw the BH P51 while browsing online for other models and thought it might be a cool cheap warbird. I haven't found much about the P51, but I have found at least one person with the P47 and a .61 engine. Anybody have any experience with the P51? I would like to use the ST .61 I have for use in this plane, would this be enough?

the plane can be found here: BH Mustang

Thanks for the input.

Paul

I can't tell you about that P-51 (although I like the other planes they have) I started this hobby almost 3 years ago with a Hangar 9 P-51 PTS trainer and switched it over to an OS 46ax and that plane was great for being almost 7 pounds. A 61 will be more than enough.

I bought the BH Mustang not too long ago, and I can tell you that you will be very pleased with it . I haven't flown it yet but I looked it over and is very well built, has an excellent hardware package, metal backed plastic spinner, FG cowl, strong mechanical retracts, wheels and an excellent covering job with great decals. It calls for a 61 size glow, so I have an OS .61 that will probably fly the wings off. Your Supertiger will provide excellent power.

I have a Phoenix Su-31, which comes from the same factory as BH models. Haven't flown it, but I am impressed with the quality which lead me to look at the BH mustang 61.

Sweet. Thanks for the input ernbar. I was trying to decide between this and the CMPro Corsair 50 (which needs a .61), but it requires you to buy retracts among other things, so this sounds like the better choice. How do you have your .61 mounted? Pitts muffler? Thanks.

Paul

EDIT: One question, are the stabs airfoiled, cause it looks like they are from the pic. Thanks.

I haven't had the time to assemble it, but I will eventually squeeze it into my busy schedule. I did inspect the ARF and everything looks fantastic. I'm debating between using the stock muffler or a Pitts. I think I will eventually go with the Pitts since it looks like most of the engine, except the head will be concealed, giving the cowl a cleaner look. The fiberglass cowl has even the exhaust stacks molded on. The canopy area doubles as a huge hatch, giving excellent access to the radio and other internal components.
Regarding your question, the vertical stab is airfoiled, but the horizontal stab is flat. It's not true scale but very close. I decided to go with the BH Mustang since I heard only positive comments about the quality. Hope this helps.
