I agree Mike about the kero start, I fitted a kit to a P60 for a friend one morning at our Jet flyin and it was so easy to do and works great.
Since have fitted one also to the new P80 in the Elan I just done. Have to get one for myself now!

I love my Kero start... pity I didn't start off with a FOD guard on the turbine too, but rather on the intakes... turns out if you leave something plastic in the fuse, and it get sucked into the turbine, you end up having to send it back to JetCat for repairs... And they're really busy at the moment!! another 4 weeks until it arrives back

Just to be clear to any others reading this thread the advice from Boomerang Jets in my post above is NOT to position your turbine too far into the fuselage for the very obvious reason that any flames released from the back of the turbine could damage the aircraft. This advice is based on seeing and hearing about on a daily basis, the very large numbers of Boomerangs people are flying out there.

There will always be those that think they know better, but above all remember - safety first and keep flying.

This is why Myself and Xairflyier are organising the Jet-fly-inns to try and help new comers so that they don't make these errors you could have saved yourself a lot of cash and time maybe next time you will come up to us !

The back handed swipe in your last sentence was not necessary, Alan would never have answered a post like that, its just that sort of elitist attitude and post that gives Jet pilots a bad rep, a little bit of humility would not go amiss as a manufacturer/supplier or did you go to the same charm school as ..........................we all come onto this thread to try and be helpful to others, if your opinion differs from others that's fine, but don't be a pontiff about it.

Hi Everybody!

I´m just buiding up my new sprint.
First of all many thanks to all for the explanations and pictures.
Now i want to implement the Sullivan 125 oz tank.
I´m wondering why most of you only connected 2 Tubes to the main Tank.
shouldn´t it be three?
1-from hoppee tank
2- tank vent
3-defuelling

I have an older tank ( picture) where i made it like this
(sorry for my band english)

Can someone help me please ?

Many thanks

Greetings
Robert

I know that on my Boomerang, I dont have a de-fueling line on my tank, I very rarely drain the tank unless I'm servicing the filters, in which case I drain the tank and the UAT (hopper) through the main feed. I dont know what the shelf life of mixed kerosene in a sealed system is, but I have never had a problem with leaving kerosene in a sealed tank for a couple weeks.

2 great flights this weekend, got a few 'niggles' out of the plane with the flaps down... very pleased with the new P80 that I put in it while I wait for the other one to be returned!
Started first time, almost as if there was no other option!!

I do, but I waited an age for the original jetcat fod guards to arrive - which they have now, and I'm very pleased

It was never a case of my boomerang wasnt running - I always had the new P80SE in a box waiting to be mounted in my new project
Just waiting for Jetcat to come back to me as to how much it'll cost to repair the other one.. it wasnt badly damaged, but will probably need a new compressor wheel at minimum..

You can de-fuel out of the Header/hopper tank fill pipe, the air vent is in the main tank so it will suck it dry first

The Orbit clunk you have in your tank is the same as the one I use without a UAT it is a felt and membrane filter clunk that seems to prevent air from getting to the turbine, 150 flights and no in flight flame out's yet, but you may wish to use a UAT for the extra fuel capacity.

The de-fueling of the tank is a good idea if you live in an area with high humidity or you are not going to use it for a long time, reasoning behind that is that a water bottom can from inside the tank from condensation and algae growth can start feeding on the kero, this can cause blocking of the filters.

Ha ha , please noooo, not the same charm school as ....................... And trust me a pontiff I am not (although I do have a rather fetching bald patch that could be described as pontiff' esque). Anyway enough pontificating....

A couple of things any Boomerang people might be interested in :

Firstly, we are competing in the "International German Championships in Formation Flying" in Bopingen, Germany later this week - about 20 teams flying jet models in formation with smoke and music. What could possibly go wrong I ask ?

We have entered 2 Torus in the competition and I am going along as Team Manager (or more as I suspect model cleaner, fuel filler and battery charger). Hopefully I will get a chance to get some good pics of the event to post on here. I'm not sure how well the team will do as it has been almost impossible to co-ordinate any decent practice time but as long as we do the best we can it should be a good event.

http://jetpower-magazin.com/2011/03/721/?lang=en

Secondly, Ali has kindly agreed in the coming months, to set aside some time to do some flying video with our range. As the format of the video is in its infancy I thought I would ask if anybody has any suggestions for what they would like to see in the video? I did think it might be a good idea to have a feature on the general basics of turbine operation as many that choose to have a Boomerang are first timers on the Jet scene. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Below a couple of pics of one of the competition Torus models and some T-shirts especially ironed by me for the Formation event - my lovely wife almost fell over when I asked her where the iron was

Take off's and landings, general slow speed stuff, which show of the benefits of the Boomrangs for guys starting into Jet Flying, every jet out there can do high speed passes, loops, rolls etc so not needed to be seen. Sell their benefits !

I would think the most notable missing info I found was Radio set up, Crow in particular, maybe a set up via a couple of the more poular transmitter options.

I would have thought that you would have had Colin giving your wresting outfit a quick pass over with the Iron.
Good luck in Germany Colin. I look forward to the forthcoming video days. I like the idea of running through some of the radio set up on the video.... Thanks Major!

Hi Ali

Your more than wellcome, after all, you took the time to help me when I was struggling to get a good radio set up so Im sure others would benefit from the same run through that you gave me.
The boomerang flys great but with the tweaks you made to it have made it awesome.

Regards

Major

Keep the ideas coming guys. Xairflyer - I agree about demonstrating the finer points although with Ali on the sticks I would be surprised if there is no rolling circuit inches from the ground in there somewhere - you know, just for good measure

Colin,

You branched out into different areas very quickly:-

Have you got a video of how it works yet?

Okay guys. I think I'm sorted
I rang the Milton Keynes store and they managed to get the price of air mail down to 340 pounds which is great!
Most of the servos, extensions and other items have started arriving in the post as well so thats all good.
I would also really like to thank Ali. He is a busy man and Ive been talking to him and he has managed to put Boomerang Intro retracts in my order. The retracts usually dont come with hardware but Ali has kindly put in all the hardware free of charge.
Will let you know when the order gets here and will take some photos.
