Status: offline 		Here is what I did with mine. I had some black screen laying around.... measure,cut and glue.
I don't know if it is realy needed or not but figured it couldn't hurt to have it.

Status: offline 		Having flown my Sprint for some time now, I know that with a smoke tank onboard with 1.5lts of smoke fluid inside there are no issues with weight and the fliing capabilities of the aircraft. Hence my question.

One of the issues for me is how easily wing panels and booms are marked when transporting and moving in and out of a car. So for my next Sprint I an considering removing the covering and recover with light woven glass cloth and spraying.

Has anyone else done this, what problems if any were met.

Why not just get wing covers and save alot of work?

Status: offline 		Successful maiden yesterday. 3 very solid flights, however will be moving the cg much further back as elevator was too mushy inverted. The prolinks stuck two fingers up to our grass field and dampened very well. P80 pushes this thing along very nicely. Still playing with the flaps, but didn't use any for takeoff. Suspect much shorter takeoff will be possible with a more reward cg and use of takeoff flap. Thanks to Alan for answering some of my queries and for a great 'everyday' sport model that breaks down perfectly to fit in a small car. More photos of the maiden on our club site forum.

Reading thru this full thread makes me more excited to get mine and build it. I have one what is due to be delivered on Tuesday. It's going to be Jet Central Falcon powered.
I also have the retracts from Dreamworks coming to.
Perfect timing actually as my P70 took a disliking to my ShockJet and tried to burn the tail off after a few minutes flying around!

One question for all that have successfully flown theirs... What servo's are you all running on Ailerons, flaps and elevator? Just Curious. I have seen referenced to the JR 8611a's and the like but seriously think they'll be a little much for this airframe.

Anyways, Thanks for all the great ideas and hints in this thread and keep it up for all the newbees coming into Jets.

Rough idea how much strip you used without flap on takeoff?
How was it to fly (especially land) compared to the little L39s?

Status: offline 		Hi George, I went with JR 591s for aileron, rudder &nosewheel steering, for Elevator and Flap I've used the 8.3kg torque JR 579. Everything felt nice a crisp so i'm happy with this setup.

Hi James, Thanks. CG and throws as per manual for the first flights. Its easy to fly, really solid and smooth. Takeoff run approx 220ft /70meters ish but I left it on the deck longer than needed to be safe of flying speed. As I said, with a nicer cg and takeoff flap this will be up in a much shorter distance. First landing took a few approaches due to the ballooning effect with full flap, so i had to force the nose down for landing. Second landing much nicer with more down elev trim mix. How long is your strip? Compared to the L39, this is fun and stress free.

Seen them (on the vid's) taking off in much less and landing in less too, but don't want to be replacing the undercarriage on first go!
did you need to hold much power on with full flap, or just let it glide in on idle?

Sounds like this jet is going to be fun to fly.
Mine just about ready for its maiden, just have to get with the turbine guys and get my turbine waiver.

Status: offline 		i am landing mine with full speed brake with crow. the thing is slow and stable all the way to the ground. i to keep just a little over idle power with nose slightly down pointed at runway. once i get about 10 feet from the ground i cut power completly and glide in for a smooth landing. this thing really does land like a trainer. for take off our runway is a 200 foot paved runway. i use all of it before i rotate. i land in the grass and you dont need to use brakes...awesome plane!!!!

Status: offline 		i took you advice and did mine like this. worked perfect. had to send my p 70 in for new starter and compressor wheel. i think this will help protect from junk comming in the from intakes...they should make some covers for those front intakes. i alumium screen material would look cool..

What powerplant are you putting in yours?

I decided on a Rabbit. I could not tell how much thrust it had on the bench runs but, when I ran it up in the sprint and held it back it pushes hard.

I did this on mine. Cut up an 89p sieve, took a profile drawing of the internal duct (which I have somewhere) then cut the mesh to shape. I then did the same in the intake cutouts around the turbine bay, similarly to that shown in post 526.

Status: offline 		i am using the jetcat p70. the power to weight is perfect.. i wouldnt go with less thrust. try to stay 17+ thrust. i do believe the rabbit is a little more thrust then the p70.. i would go with who ever has the best service. from what i here jet cat service is legendary...

Just hocked all the wires to the Turbine and it looks like if the weather holds up, I will be doing my maiden right after the Toledo show which is the 1st weekend in April. Thanks Doc. As for inverted, it needed almost full down elevator deflection to sustain level flight.......nose heavy trait.

That's what I was looking for. The positive thing is nose heavy, (in moderation) is usually better than tail heavy on tri gear. We were playing around a little over the weekend and with both wings off, all tanks totally dry and the turdle deck off, we lifted it by the center spar and it wanted to just slightly go tail heavy, and I mean slightly so I know were close. I have many pictures I need to post showing all the custom graphics I made and the 3 air inlets I installed. I will post them when I get back from The Toledo show. Who ever took your pictures while you were flying, hopefully it wasn't you, (hahahahaha) did a super job of the ship flying. You mentioned there were more pictures on your club forum. What is the address so we can see more.

Status: offline 		here are the pics of my boomer.. itook a picture of the full flap view and hope you can see the crow in the aireons. motor is at jetcat . neat plane... this thing slows down very very slow for landing with the full flap with crow..
