The easiest place to get one is in a ship chandlers that sells outboard motors its used a lot in salt water environments.

Have a look at retract sets for other aircraft, like Jet legend etc, you could also buy one brand of retract bodies then add trailing link legs from another source.
Eurokit have a good range of retract bodies and also trailing link legs (CAR/15082/001) at good prices, perfectly good enough for this weight of model.

I don't keep my fuel in a fuel bowser, but in a 25lt plastic barrel, when I trasfer into my fuel bowser I use a ''Mr Funnel'' filter that will not allow water to pass, this seems to work quite well as I have never had a filter of any kind block or even look as though they are getting contaminated, working it all out it seems before my fuel gets to the turbine it is filtered six times.

Mike

Hi Mike,
Do you add turbine oil to the fuel and then filter tru` Mr Funnel or do you add the oil after you`ve filtered?

Steve

I do both, filter into my mixing drum, add the oil then filter each time I fill up my fuel station

As Xairflyer, I filter through the Mr Funnel filter after adding the oil, if you get hold of one, try a little experiment and add a little water to a small amount of Kero and pour it through the filter, the water will just separate and be left in the filter, whilst the Kero will go through.

Mike

EDIT: What you do with the waste is up to your conscience.

I tip it into the drum I use for the oil burner than runs the central heating in my workshop. You could collect it in a drum and then re-filter it through again when enough is accumulated.

EDIT: What you do with the waste is up to your conscience.

This is what actually sold me on the Mr Funnel about ten years ago when I bought my first one. The first microlights I started flying many years ago were all two strokes and water in the fuel bowl moving over the main jet, would have made the engine go silent (not a good idea when flying).
So removing water from the fuel was important. We first used to use a chamois leather over the funnel, as once you pass petrol through a chamois leather it will not let water through after that.

Then at one of the Microlight trade shows David from Ridgeway Air had imported the Mr Funnels and demonstrated it by having one sitting full of water all day over a glass jar, from then on that is all we have used. I have the big 8" one for the fullsize use and the 5" one for the jet kero.
I also have the little 3" one but I have found it too small really to be of any use, other than keeping in the aeroplane for when you need fuel away from home.

My dad's part way through building a Sprint, it's going to have a Jetcat p70 fitted, do we need to put the usual 3/8" shim under the Jetcat mount to centre the turbine or does it not matter on this model.

Thanks

Nick

You can use a sheep-skin shammy IN a funnel to remove the water from the fuel. Once the shammy is soaked in the fuel, it will not pass water. This method has been used for many years when fueling aircraft from drums.

If you want to remove water from fuel use a "Mr Funnel" works every time, you can get one from a boat chandler.

Hi iv almost finished Assembling my Sprint, and have a few questions.

does the end of your turbine's nozle stick out the back of your sprint? mine is about an inch inside the plane. is this ok?

has everyone glued there center wing section on, i have only bolted mine in position is this ok? i dont see how if you glue those four small pieces of ply that locate into the center wing section will add that much strength?

What CG are you running? mine with the jets munt VT 80, and 2 batteries in the front (2cell 4000 lipo & 2300 A123) i have to put about a pound of lead in the nose to get it to balance at the rear of the wing tube (the 10" from trailing edge) that the manual recommends. Right now my CG is around 8.5 inches from the trailing edge. i have attached some pics.

Below are some comments that i found on page 48 of this thread

I moved mine a good 25mm further back than recommended and cut out the nose dropping tendency in turns, flew much nicer with lighter nose.

balance the plane per the below to start:
DRY
OUTER WINGS OFF
MAIN CF SPAR IN
GEAR DOWN
ALL EQUIPMENT INSTALLED RTF
250mm from TRAILING EDGE (flap) ~ 9-7/8"
This will put the CG on the aft edge of the main spar CF tube (NOT centered on the tube), therefore I must lift the plane from under the booms.

Right now my CG is about 1/4" back from the 250mm so I need to add about 2oz in the nose to balance out. Does this sound like its the correct way to balance this plane?
