am seriously considering the bigger moabs. i dont know if the moabxl is bigger or the 40 series moab. the only reason i havent yet is because some say that you have to gear down for more torque to handle the larger tire. another thing is i dont know if i wanna start straining the drivetrain that much just yet. i just like the aggressive tread and look

LOL...Moabs will break things.

go with a smaller/lower profile tires like the bowties.

Moabs are too big. Slower acceleration, more drivetrain stress, faster waring clutch shoes and slipper, and difficult to control in the air are all reasons to stick to smaller tires. The MOAB XL's are narrower than the rest of the 40 series tires. They need the special Cheyenne narrow bead-lock wheels.

Personally, the proline Dirt Hawgs perform flawlessly whether it be during jumps or even while running the truck on the street. The bowties were tiny and really killed the top end noticeably. Plus, bowties suck for in air control because their treads are very small and cannot affect in air balance as much as a thick treaded tire. Moabs are OK but nothing more than that. They absolutely suck on pavement but are considered good on grass. Never tried them myself but I've seen them being run on my friends' trucks. Also, there is no need to gear lower or do any other mods like that, its fine the way it is.

I do not think it is the tread that controls your truck in the air, it is the rotating mass. If you stop a lighter tire, or a shorter tire, it has much less mass to impact the truck with. Same for acceleration in air, it is harder to kick the truck back as there is less rotating weight to do it with.

Hmm. I prefer a lighter tire for bashing, because it's that much easier to control the truck in the air...a quick slight stab at the brakes doesn't make it land on its roof from an otherwise level takeoff.

That being said, I'm not a huge fan of back/frontflips anyway, so that's a big reason I don't run Moabs.

Yea I pefer smaller tires too. I would only run 40's f my chassis was extened or had an LST and it wouldn't be Moabs or Big joes. The Moab xls seem good though.

Be ready for hot temperatures and gear trouble with those 40's. They are more of a burden than anything.

If you put MOAB's on a Savage X, you're going to need to drop 1 or 2 teeth on your clutch bell or your acceleration is going to suck. Your engine is also going to run hot. MOAB's may work fine on an XL without gearing changes because they are similar in diameter to the Terra pin tires. They are probably quite a bit heavier though. Both the HPI Dirt Bonez and Terra Pins are designed to be lightweight for better performance.

I'm kinda sad that I moved from the 40series to the maxx sized wheel (savage gt2 tires on warlock rims) on my lst2. If I find a decent set of 17mm 40 series wheels on ebay I'll buy em soon. There's really nothing like the stability and handling of a 40series tire whether it be on road or offroad. I would think that savage owners would be leaning toward 40series tires because they stop the truck from flipping.

You could also try Panther Pythons streteched over 40 series rims. They fit ..trust me...and they are great for bashing and the track. They don't wear fast on the street so anyone can use them. They are one of the few 40 series tires that aren't heavy....if weight is a MAJOR factor then I understand why you wouldn't get 40 series tires.

You need some of these! http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPEC1&P=ML
They have a 17mm hub size and are the sickest looking 40 series sized wheels out there!

Moabs are cool because they look like full size Super Swamper SSRs.
