Hello guys i'm wondering what it would take to convert a xl-5 rustler to 4wd.

More effort than it's worth if you ask me. If you want a 4x4 sell the XL-5 and buy one. I'm not saying it can't be done, so if you want to do it for the sake of the project by all means go for it, but if you just want a 4x4 RC there are easier ways.

I think it's almost imposible to make it 4WD using only one motor in the rear though. I can't imagine the front being driven by shaft, but maybe chain?

Basically you would need another Rustler, a better ESC, matching motors, and a dremel. I love mine.

What's wrong with that ?

On his setup, since the motors are in seperate gearboxes, there would be no problem running dual brushless (other than needing two speed controls).

Price would be wrong with that. Im just a poor college student It runs more than fast enough for me with a 6000 mah 2s Lipo.

If I wanted a brushless 4x4 I think I would sell some stuff and buy an E-Savage. Shafty is where its at.

I still think you should upgrade to duel Brush-less.
