slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 2:13 AM)

David0666: Yes the fireHammer came with wheel squares..but these new wheels do not fit..shy about 1 mm from what I can tell..the new wheels are shallow on the
inside hub.. and holes drilled in hub..See picture..also no steel band to pervent cracking...I know there are wheel squares with pins..I seen them just can't remember where..Maybe RC NUT
The new wheels can wait for a while..The old ones have some life left but not much. Thanks for your reply..Roger.

davido666 -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 2:52 AM)

I just measured my wheel drive blocks and they are 18mm just like the duratrax ones.

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 7:08 AM)

David0666: Ok I hear ya,,It is late here about 2:10 am so I will be checking out the wheel squares in the morning..
I still think I need squares with the pins...No band on inner hub..Easy to crack with a lot of torque at the wheel..
from dead stop making rooster tails...Thanks for the reply..Roger

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 3:38 PM)

David0m666:Ok I took off my drive bolck..It also measures 18mm..If you look at the conors there slightly round..
On the new wheels the triangled..not round...See the picture close uo...I still think I need the drive squares with the pins also
there is no inside band...Inclosed apicture..alittle blurred..best I could get it..Thanks for your help..Roger

davido666 -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 6:55 PM)

These are listed as 17 mm wheel adapters.

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 7:15 PM)

David0666: I found some drive blocks with the pins... rcnut had them...I ordered 2 blocks for the rear axles..
That should work..I can file the front blocks down a little on the ends..should fit..I don't think I will need pins on the front..
There should not be much of a load on those front blocks....Thanks for the reply..Roger

hellya -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 7:29 PM)

The FG alloy squares are not hard hard as the firehammers made from steel[:D] http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHTW3&P=Z

You can buy the alloy ones with the pins http://www.rc-car-online-shop.de/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=9904&ls=e&nc=1218522414-9924&rubnum=&artnum=fg_6106_07&file=&gesamt_zeilen=0Tsuche11.5mm

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 7:44 PM)

Hellya: thank you for the reply..Do I need the pins? really..There is no support band on the back side of hub..
Suppose I could make some bands...Oh for got to ask....There are no holes drilled on the back side of rim..Do I need to drill holes? I know tire
will inflate or expand if you do..Worked great with nitro....Thanks..Roger
EDIT:spelling

davido666 -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 10:00 PM)

Some people fill the holes in because they can let sand and water into the foam inside.

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/13/2008 10:42 PM)

David0666:Won't matter on this rim..Center hub no where close to main inner wheel...Any way do you drill a hole on the inside rim?I know in nitro it helped for better traction..
Thanks for your reply..Roger
EDIT: Oh forgot on checking the new wheels and tires..I had to reglue every tire...3" long sections not glued..
there glued now..ready too install...Got some new drive squares ordered...3 or 4 day wait..

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/14/2008 1:19 PM)

Ok... It came in the mail this morning...This is the tachometer is was talking about...You have to make your clutch bell dark in color
electrical tape or paint black..some clucth bells are black in color already..then apply reflective tape 1cm.or 2 1/2 " long...too clutch bell
Start your engine ..point tachometer at the tape...take reading..that simple...Make your adjustments on your carb for preformance...
Now for me this is a great item..I have lost most of my hearing tones...I will try to get a picture of clucth bell..and one with reading when
I get ready ..maybe a couple days..Thanks for all the replies and help on my firehammer project..Roger

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/14/2008 7:39 PM)

Ok ..I just finished painting the clutch bell black...no need for a picture..wait tell dry and apply
reflective tape..reinstall ..should be ready to fire up..and check out the rpm's and adjust the carb...I did some reading
for performance the graph or chart shows 12,500 rpm for the high side needle..Now hears the part says
idle 4,000 rpm's...wow that seems high to me..But then again I am going from the charts...
With the new clutch shoes and red spring..Is too engage at 8,000 rpm...So if any one has any idea's please let
me know on this...As many of you know I have been trying to run this now for like 3 weeks...
Many thanks for all your help on my firehammer...Roger

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/15/2008 2:16 PM)

Ok Rain here again this morning..Hope to yet get out side to fire this up with the new walbro 813 carb and try out the
tacometer for adjustments...All I can say after 3 weeks now of tearing this firehammer apart and doing a bunch of upgrades
I maxed out both my son's credit cards...I could have got a 5b baja in box or ss kit..for what my son's have invested in this firehammer
But this is a good learning project..I know this firehammer inside and out now..Many many thanks go out to you all for your great help
and support...I am not sure if I will go back to the Nitro stuff....But I still want to get a real FG..no clone...I have learned a lot with this
firehammer..Like I mentioned before..I had to start some place with 1/5 Scale...Glad it was this firehammer and not some other clone..
I will let you know how that new clutch is..on take off from dead stop..I have still to get a video for every one to see....
Thanks again...Roger

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/17/2008 4:23 PM)

More up grades to come..maybe this Tue..Waiting for parts..Thanks for all your help..
Replys and suggestions always welcome...AKA Slawhammer

Roger, much have happened here since my last visit, looks like its going well![8D]

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/17/2008 6:32 PM)

Lars: My friend.. Yes I have been busy trying to make this better all around..
As to those deive squares from dave's there 17mmx17 mm...I have some coming with the pins
to fit FG rims..Also a new set from tower..with out pins..My concern is there is no band on the
inside hub..to help keep from splitting out the rim it self...I guess I could try and make some rings
to epoxy on there...Thanks for your reply....AKA Slawhammer

smaxx311 -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/18/2008 9:28 PM)

Sorry My Friend I do not own a dirt track..As to racing no I have not done the yet....I have been in to 1/5 scale about 5 week now
my son's got me a firehammer..I have ran 1 tank of fuel and then started to have issues..so looked it over real good..decided it was
time to order parts and fix it better than what was MFG.. So I have had about 2 weeks down time...I should be ready this weekend to fire it up
and give it a good work out....I guess I am a basher...I do not race..any way never tried with this..have to travel so far 100 miles or better
I have a place I can go..400yd mowed grass area off a golf club area..maybe some dirt patchs here and there...Thanks for asking...

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/20/2008 1:17 AM)

Ok..I got in the mail today from tower..duratac drive squares mt..Opened the package the same thing as what I have on the firehammer
The corners are round..I have 2 options..1 grind inside of wheel hub to fit drive squares..2 grind drive block to fit inside wheel hub...
I think I will use a diamond file and do the corners on the drive squares to fit the inner wheel hub..Then make bands to fit over the inner wheel
hub..and epoxy the bands to keep from splitting the hub...Still waiting on drive cups and dog bones....Thanks for all the help..AKA Slawhammer

smaxx311 -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/20/2008 8:36 PM)

becouse i know a guy named roger out past marysville that has a dirt oval track in his back yard that i race an rc10gt and baja 1000

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/20/2008 8:53 PM)

Smaxx311: Wish I did have a place like that..Sure sounds like fun ,,Thanks for your reply...AKA Slawhammer

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/21/2008 3:32 AM)

Ok ..I had to hand file the drive squares..Used diamond files..Only took about 4 hours...I have no power tools..so things
are done the hard way..No dermal.no grinder..So more care goes in to my work..I have to make the bands now for the
inner hub..on the wheel...That's where I am it for now..Thanks for all your replys and help..AKA Slawhammer

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/21/2008 3:01 PM)

Ok going too a machine shop today too see if I can get some collars for the inside wheel hubs..
The drive blocks are ready...Got in the mail ..drive cups and new axles..So looking forward to these
monster meat tires going on....Long hard battle ..But I am getting there....Most other BLING can wait till
winter time....Thanks for all your help and replys with my firehammer.....Aka Slawhammer

slawhammer -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/22/2008 1:18 PM)

Well ..the machine shop was good for a laugh..they said we can make you collers for those wheels...
@10 bucks each plus materials...Said thanks ..but not today...Hmm what to do I thought..60 bucks lot of
money for 4 cunks of metal...Went too plumbing shop..bought 1 inch black gas pipe about 3 inches long...
for 1.98 + tax like $2.08 dollars thank you..Went home..cut 4 chunk of pipe in 1/2 inch wide sections...
so now with some. filing or grinding to fit the inner hub..I will be all set...This is going to take some time
I have now power tools....I will keep ya posted on what's going on..Thanks for all the help..AKA Slawhammer

Lars from Norway -> RE: New to the 1/5 scale RC world (8/22/2008 2:03 PM)
