i was kind of disappointed that the b400 doesn't come with a power supply. i dug up the one that came with my esky lama v3, which outputs +12V DC at 1.5 A. the e-flite charger accepts input ranging from 11.5 to 15V DC, and the power plug is identical. good so far.

plug it in, and i get 3 solid reds on the cell LEDs and a flashing red on the status LED. according to the label, this means "power, no battery." good.

when i plug in the battery, things get weird. the cell LEDs turn green, status turns red, and the fan spools up. then the 3 cell LEDs turn red, status turns OFF, and the fan cuts. this cycle occurs every second ad nauseam.

the charger works fine when hooked up to my car's battery, but that's not exactly a convenient way for me to charge. rather than spend $20 on the e-flite power supply, should i just put that towards a better charger? suggestions? thanks.

e-bomb,

I have been down this road before...I find the stock charger to be barely adequate, sometimes not finishing a charge, not balancing the cells, etc.

I ended up getting a much better charger, the Eflite C505, which has been a great charger. It also gives you MUCH more info on what's going on with the battery/charger.

Thing is, you still need a separate power supply for it as well. I use the Eflite 3 amp, 12volt supply with mine. I also have a large "gel cell" battery from a Mazda Miata I use as a power supply. It's pretty cool because there is no acid to worry about with it.

Hope this helps some,

Glenn

I got this from Michael at US Hobby Supply. An old computer power supply is extremely cheap, and stable and powerful. It will easily run a couple of balance chargers.

+1 to making the computer power supply. I have converted 3 of them for friends also. It is easy to do. The first one took me about an hour and the rest took about 20 minutes. Works great.
