I am in the process of mounting my sierra gear in my Yellow P-47. The fork sticks up above the wing about 1/8 of an inch. This will not allow me to mount the door flush with the wing.
Has anyone with this same setup had this problem. If so how did you fix it?
Any help would be appreciated.

I feel foolish,

I forgot to turn the wheel axel in the right direction, when I did the part that was up suddenly line up perfectly.

No more problem!

Hi Stan,

I used the Sierra gear in my Yellow P-47 and I did have to recess mine a bit to accomodate the gear doors and such. Basically, I cut down the height of the hardwood mounting rails that the gear attaches to then added a like amount to the opposite side of the rail to regain the lost material strength. The gear now fits like a glove.

I'm an associate member of TRCC having left Tucson in late 1999. What club to you belong to?

Hi Al'

I am also a member of TRCC. I have lived in Tucson For 10 years, and have been a member all that time.

I thought of cutting down the mounting blocks also but the area to work in is very small and I could not figure what to use without messing up the wing in that area.
What did you use, and how did you do it?

I did find that when I rotated the fork in the right direction it was only a hair above the wheel well. This would give a slight contour to the door that seems to follow the airfoil.

I have just joined the wings and have not glassed them yet, maybe the glass will raise the wing slightly and be enough. I will have to see when I get to that point.

The blocks are really tough hardwood, I could not figure how to cut away without tearing up the surrounding area.

I have a G-62 in mine.
How do you like the way your's fly's?
