What causes a well known modeling magazine to allow publication of a photo like this?

What specifically is your issue with the photo?

Was the photo part of the magazine editorial content or part of an advertisement?

It disturbs me; I find it slightly insulting.

The photo was one of several of the featured subject found in a product review article.

Advertising dollars. You don't believe it looks real I imagine. Well I don't either but sales of the magazine don't pay the bills, advertising dollars do. So the advertisers tend to get good press, good articles and photo's.

At least three individuals were involved here: the one writing the review, the photographer, and the editor of the publication. I thought it was the editor's job to prevent things like this going to print.

No, its not an ad and it has nothing to do with looking real. Actually, I think it would have been a rather nice banking rear 3/4 shot with good lighting.

The “Stars and Bars” were applied up-side-down.

One would think that someone in the editorial department would have caught the error and not let this picture get into circulation.

Oh well…………

Lets see, R/C plane in an R/C magazine. That's just wrong.

The stars and bars are upside down, the cowl is set at a goofy up tilt, the landing gear covers (not evident in this shot but in another pic in the review article) appear to be on backwards or some other peculiar set. Unfortunately, this is too typical of what comes out of the mag's California contributor. As to editorial review, ha ha, what a novel idea!

I think you are looking too deep into the whole thing. I can appreciate your eagle eye for things "not scale" but to the average modeler it looks great.

it is an ARF in a magazine that pushes ARF manufacturers ads...go figure right?

This one actually is an ad by a manufacturer appearing in a different publication.

Not only is the national insignia up-side-down but its on the wrong wing and is U.S. Army Air Force instead of USAF. Guess where its made?

It says right on the ad that WOW Planes are designed and made in the USA.

it seems to be an honest mistake i know a couple people including myself that have put the decals on the right way in the cradle, then put the wing on, take it out of the cradle to get a couple of finshed photos then thats when you say crap!!!
