spent my evening reading through the manuals and familiarizing myself with the new bird. the swash is nice and level, all the servos zero out appropriately, and the controls work as they should. i noticed two things that may or may not be problems, and wanted to ask the experts.

1) the tail rotor's pitch changes as the "hub" is pushed back and forth on the "slider." (pardon my lack of heli-vocabulary). the hub tends to hang on the slider. if i give left rudder input, the hub will slide all the way to one side, but when i release the stick, it doesn't return to center. then, i'll give right rudder input. it will slide all the way to the other side, but upon releasing the input, it doesn't return all the way to the center. do i need to lubricate the slider? or does this issue disappear once the blades are spinning?

2) when i disengage the throttle lock, the blades begin to spin slowly. i didn't expect this at all. is this normal? throttle stick was all the way down.

thanks.

For your first question it sounds like you are in HH mode. Make a mental note of were the gain is on the gyro then turn it below 50% and move the rudder. It should return to the center. This is called rate mode. You don't want to fly in this mode, so return the gain to were it was. It sounds normal to me.

For your second question it sounds like soft start. That slowly spins the rotors at first then speeds them up. If you didn't have that the motor could strip the main gears (which I have done) or create some major vibrations if the blades weren't aligned when you start adding throttle.

Nick

This may not relate to your problem but it happened to me.
I noticed the the rudder stick on my transmitter(DX6i that came with my Blade 400) did not want to go to center on the Left and right axis . I popped the back of the transmitter to tighten up the spring tension and lo and behold there was no screw installed for the rudder tension, the stick would almost center but it kind of had a lot of free area in the center.
I put a 2mm screw in the hole for the spring tension and the troubles went away .
Might be worth checking.

Regards
Dwight

When your gyro is in head holding mode (over 50% on the tx settings) then it does not go back to center all the time. If you lower the gyro setting on the tx below 50%, lets say 25% it should go back to center.
Check your trims on the throttle. The heli should not spool up when the throttle is all the way down. Also check to see that the top left switch marked GEAR/FX is in the GEAR setting, this is your normal throttle and FX is your "Idle up" or stunt mode.

Make sure you do not switch Throttle Hold on until after the heli initializes.
Turn on TX, plug in battery and wait for tones, then switch throttle hold to on.
When you switch it off after following the above order if it still spins you'll need to reset your throttle trims and maybe the Throttle Hold curve and rebind.
But just don't switch Throttle Hold on until after power up and you'll be OK.
