What size pinion are you using. The stock plastic pinion will not stay on the shaft for very long. Even with CA glue on it, it will still come off when the motor shaft gets warm. I had one in my mini t when i raced it and i used the 9,10,11,12,17 tooth pinions. If you use aftermarket pinions you will have to file a flat spot on the motor shaft for the set screw on the pinions.

Wish i knew that before i started trying to drive in in the driveway without gear box on. my Golden Horizons 9t is gone. I have a 15t gh pinion on the way should this be fine? Also how do you file down a flat spot on the shaft i havent ever had to do this before.

I used a dremel tool to do mine. Yea it is a good idea to run the mini t with the gear cover on so you wont lose your pinion. If you are just running on smooth pavement and not offroad then the 15t should be fine.

You can use a small metal file. The flat spot that needs to be put in the shaft really only has to be tiny. Just big enough for the set screw in the pinion to fit in.
