hey guys

I just received my RS4 3 ,

I want to do the break it
(im listening to HPI'S dvd right now too) to learn


here's the story
the person who i bought it from , did 1 tank on it & never did broke it fully....

so i want to Do the WHOLE process from a to Z
i got the manual & everything........

but here's my problem i got it to start when i restored the low speed needle (valve?)
so more gas was entering the motor......

but then i couldn't get it to idle for long enough to make 1 tank......

plus i didn't see nitro fuel spitting (like it's supposed to.....)

also I want to Restore the high speed needle to factory but the manual doesn't say crap about it........
it says for the top needle but not that one

so now i closed it until there's a resistance & i can't turn it more (like showed in manual)
but they don't say after that how much turns i need to actually do.... all it's written is turn 1/2 to increase...... ok....
but what do i need to do ?

dont use the idol method
it does nothiong to your motor really
use this one, i found it the best
also this guy has ALOT of useful vids

wow what a timed response!

i was just listening to one of his vids!

& i thought he was VERY VERY amazing in what he was teaching!

but if you know how to set my HIGH speed to Original let me know

flush??? , when it's closed? or ?. I don't get it because

when i turned it to the maximum it stayed up like so | now i set it up 1/2 turn more to - this position...
i dunno if's it's enough

you make it so its flush with the sleeve its in
making it a perfectly flat end
so the bolt doesnt stick out any and so its not in any

i see.......

so far i did 1 half tank on idle....... i stoped it since the engine seemed Very hot.....

and sometimes it was looking to race for no reason......

then i wanted to approach the RICH settings using the low speed needle (the one that needs to be flush i guess?.....)

anyways

it's been a disaster so far.........

I now start the car it's racing all over

i have 0 control on it i need to stop it before it ''breaks something''

then i try to restore the ''factory settings'' nothing seems to work.


the IDLE screw seems to be ''used to open the carburator when i use the trim''

my trim doesn't respond at all even if i put the screw as hard as i can or open it

if i open it i see the carburator handle going down but never the oposite ....... so it's like impossible to start the car with a closed carbu

....

i read somewhere you have to have like a milimetre space
i think this might help you out
ultimate nitro engine tuning
its a 24 part video guide on the complete tuning of your engine
but i would just say ignore the HPI breakin method and use the "squirrel" one that i linked a bit above

THAT HPI DVD REALLY COMES HANDY!
i will keep it preciously! until they come up with a new volume for new engines: )


Today I started break in process....

It started as a disaster

but anyways

here's what i did

please tell me if you think i did Fine or not?.



First half tank (since the guy who i bought it from did the 1rst tank he said)
I did it on idle
Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down

second tank : Low low speed until runs out
Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down

Third tank : Low low medium speed until runs out
Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down

Fourth tank : High speed 2 to 3 seconds bursts
Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down

Fifth tank : highspeeds more constant , medium , more of a normal run but nothing abusive like running high speeds too long I moderate
Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down


Sixth Tank : Ran high speed , medium , slow , Started Making Lean settings on the high speed needle , and low speed , tested it out ,

Wait 15 mins for engine to cool down

Thats about it


What do you guys think as my first break in process?.

I broke mine in as per the manual yesterday. I have allways broken in my motors with the 2, 2, 3, 3, 3 method at 200*. I found that after the first tank you can adjust the idle screw to tame the engine down a bit to make break in easier and keep it from getting too hot. You need to do this when the engine is at operating temperature though. Ran the second and third tank as per the manual as well.

There is no wrong way to break in an engine unless you lean it out prematurely. As long as the temperature is fine, and its not too lean it will be ok. I ran it for a few minutes again today. I have not started to lean it yet and I may not even tough the needles. Atthe factory settings it runs at 220*. I think I'll leave it there. I'm not worried about run time since I'm not racing.

that's good but 1 thing you didnt do. put your piston bottom dead center or bdc while cooling down.

Update : tOday i Ran the car more ''racing style''

I started Leaning more & more the ''high speed needle for optimum performance.

I noticed a Very good amount of speed was building up


My engine always was reading 170 , 174 , 152 , 200 is the max i hit F on my thermal reader

Is that good

I guess anything below 230 is superb?
