Hi, i could use help with a problem i'm having. up until now i have been flying 40-60 size planes. This is my first big plane, and the instructions are unclear. There is a box affair that slides into the firewall, it does not go flush, and it has an angle to the right as you were looking from the rear to the front of the aircraft.
the instructions show a flat, smooth, one piece firewall. is this the motor mount?
The instructions call for 2c- 90. , to 1.20 ... 4c- 1.20 , to 1.80 ... any engine recommendations? how about servos, High torque is probably the way to go, but which one's, i fly JR.
I called powerline and chuck was really nice to take time for me, but his direction sheet showed a flat firewall too. he suggested i post here to find help.
Thanks for your help to a confused guy.
Sincerly, George
Plane specs- WS-73.84"
L-70.04"
Wing area- 770.85 sq"
rtf weight- 4500- 4700 grams

I say put a gasser in it, how about a SPE26? this engine comes with its own stand of mounts which would be good for this motor mount situation.

George

the angle on the firewall is built in to give you some right angle. This adjust for the natural torque of the motor to pull you to the left Dont worry, a few degrees is about right for this style of airplane.

As far as motor it all depends on your style. Anything from a 1.20 to 180 will work including small 26cc gassers if your so inclined. For servos just make sure they are decent quality and have at least 50+ oz's of torque. The higher the better of course but whatever your budget allows.

good luck

matt

The sliding engine box is made to be adjustable, from front to back. That way, no matter what engine brand you use, you can set it up so that the prop drive on the engine ends up where it needs to be in front of the cowl, giving you the correct spacing between the cowl and spinner. Also, make sure that the angle on the sliding box is installed to the right, as you show in the pics. The engine needs to angle to the right a little as viewed from the rear, and not to the left.

Whistling death; that makes sense, thanks ! The fellow i talked to at power-line told me very little, he was curteous, and took time to look up my questions on their sheets, but was not able to tell me this. He did say if i were using a gas engine the range was, 2C : 40 - 53, 4C : 52 - 72 . I thought those were a bit large for this size plane. Thanks to all, George

Hmm,
Those sound like glow engine recommendations, and are too small for this size plane. For gasoliine engines, you'd need something like a 26cc to maybe a 35cc. If the given weights are correct, then the plane should come in at about 10.5 lbs. I fly a 25% Katana that weighs 10lbs 12oz with a MVVS 26cc gas engine. It flys great. Try to build this as light as possible, or go with a larger displacement glow engine, like a 1.60 2 stroke or a 180 4 stroke.
