i am planning on being at the beach this weekend. aside from going in the water, are there any particular things i should know.....about sand and nitro trucks. i have a savage x 4.6 basically stock. i imagine it will be a mess to clean afterwards but is there anything else i should or should not do?

Make sure its real clean before you run in sand. If its dirty and has oil/greas all over the sand will stick like crazy. If its clean you will have very minimal sand sticking. Also make sure filter is super tight and oiled well. When you are done use a good air compressor to blow off any loose sand. Then you will have to take all the wheels off and clean the bearings and drive cups. I have ran in sand a few times. Its a great time . I dont have any damage due to sand either so far.

Anything thats dual stage like the HPi filters or Motor saver air filters are your best. ANy K&N style filters are junk. They are for show and will ruin your engine if run in any dirty dusty conditions. The key is making sure teh truck is clean and dry before going to sand.

If you are one that thinks drive cups must be lubricated, use graphite powder. I just run them dry in loose dirt or sand, actually all the time. I find I break something internally long before I wear out the outdrives. If you have a larger spur gear or smaller bell, a little more power and less speed is nice to have in the sand if it is soft powder. Packed or wet sand is a riot! Loose sand will tax your power supply. Listen for changes in the idle speed, higher pitched and faster as that is a good warning of too much heat, you may need to add a little fuel to the mixture to keep temps down. Go have fun, grab us a video if you can. BB
