Is the manual for the Fliton Inspire 60 available online anywhere ? I've been looking at this plane for over a year and thought I might check out the manual. Anyone who has this plane or had it care to give their opinon of the planes fit and finish and how it flys. I'm looking at using the Saito .82 or the OS 81.

I doubt you could find a better flying airplane in this size. If you go for it, use the Saito 82. It's got great fuel draw and you can leave the tank on the cg. I assume you meant OS 91? If so, this airplane is built insanely light, and I think the 91 would be way too much. I have a 55AX on mine and the ailerons will flutter at full throttle.

The manual sucks, don't bother looking for it. It's pretty much useless.

However, the fit and finish is not up to snuff. The covering will peel after a short exposure to glow exhaust, and the landing gear needs to be replaced.

I've been flying mine hard for about a year and a half now. It's still together but it's aged much quicker than anything else I've owned. For the price, it should be built much better. Maybe look at the ExtremeFlight Extra.

Cody-RCU,

I did mean the OS .81. The new O.S. 81FS-a came out not to long ago. I currently have a Saito .82 on a GP Reactor and this plane is a ball. That's what got me to thinking about the Inspire 60. I've had so many Saito engine I'm a little burnt out so I wanted to try an OS .81 and see how they are. As far as replacing the landing gear, I've pretty much gotten use to that on half the planes I buy. The covering issue is becoming a standard as well. I have the covering issue on the GP Reactor and my Wild Hare Extra 260.

Zippi,

Sorry that I misread you, and that I'm not up to date.

My dad has been flying a Reactor for a while now with a Saito 82 as well, and of course, I have "borrowed" it quite a few times, so I feel I can make some very good comparisons for you.

The Reactor gear is usable, on his my dad simply turned it around so it is swept forward. It's very bendy but it works just fine. The Inspire gear cracks and falls apart. It's made out of fiberglass. It will do this simply taxiing in grass.

The Reactor has a little bit more pitch authority than the Inspire because it is shorter. However, it does not have as much lateral area, so KE performance isn't as good. Additionally, the Inspire seems much more stable in KE. KE harriers are much easier with the Inspire.

The longer tail moment of the Inspire also allows for very good precision, much better than the Reactor in my opinion.

The Reactor can be flown full throttle. In my experience the Inspire will flutter the ailerons. I have 70 oz-in servos on the ailerons and they're more than enough, and my linkage is very solid 4-40 stuff. The ailerons are simply too light for speed.

So, my recommendation is that if you want the best flying 50 size airplane you can get, the Inspire is for you, but you need to be prepared to pay a lot of money, be very careful with it, and deal with some quality issues. Maybe somebody like Extreme Flight or 3D Hobby shop will come along with a pattern/3D hybrid like the Inspire, with good covering and landing gear at the same weight, and make the Inspire obsolete. Right now they've almost done that with the EF 58" Extra or the 3DHS 55" Extra SHP (even though it's supposed to be electric, the new version is covered in UltraCote and Ben told me it would work with glow with some mods). However, they're both scale, and not quite as big as the Inspire.

I'm not bashing Fliton, either. The Inspire has been out for a few years now, and the fact that it's STILL probably the best flying airplane in its class says a lot.

Cody-RCU,

Thanks for the info. I replaced the gear during the build with the CF gear from Graphtec. I used clear nail polish on all the sharp edges of the covering to help with the covering coming loose. I do fly my Reactor full throttle but I'm running an APC 14X4W prop on my .82 so it's really not that fast with that prop. I just wonder if that would still be to fast for the Inspire 60. I wouldn't think that the Inspire 60 is built as beefy as the Reactor since it was designed around an electric setup.

Zippi, it's a great model for electric, but it's actually not built around an electric set up. It comes with a motormount and the instructions tell you how to mount a YS 63 and fuel tank.

Mine fluttered at full throttle with a 12.25x3.75 APC on a 55AX. You might be OK at full throttle with the 14x4W on a thumper.

I got mine from 3dhobbyshop.com back when Ben still sold them.

But it looks like Flitonstore.com has them, and you can get the limited edition white version there. I recommend that you get the white version because fuel will soak into the wood underneath the covering (on most models, I think) and it looks really ugly with clear covering, but you can't see it with white covering.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine. Despite its shortcomings, it's still an awesome airplane.
