Hello to all, I'm new to EDF jets and am quite interested in learning to fly them. Right now I've been working with RealFlight G3.5 quite a bit in addition to going through various trainer planes to build my skill. Right now I'm flying a Horizon Hobby Mini-Pulse XT, brushless motor/lipo battery. I'm starting to think ahead to what my next project might be. I really enjoy the scale looks of military aircraft and have always loved the looks of the A-10. Originally I was looking to purchase a kit from Wowplanes.com, but soon realized it maybe too much for my budget right now. I did a search on Google for EDF jets and a site came up that has a smaller A-10 ARF kit, the site is: Electric Jet Factory, they primarily specialize in EDF jets. Here is a direct link to the A-10 I'm interested in: A-10 EDF, has anyone had any experience with this plane as far as flying it or products from this company? Also if anyone is willing could you possibly direct me to a site featuring equipment that would be needed to complete the jet, I'm a bit of a bargain hunter and if I can find a better deal I always take it. Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure, I am an A-10 fanatic myself!!

Currently building a 115" EDF A-10.

The A-10 is a great flying jet that is easy to handle and very forgiving. If you want something small, for the park , the GWS A-10 might be good for you.

Robert at Electric Jet Factory is a great guy to deal with. #1 customer service and products. I built their A-10 and did a lot of detailing to it. Have a look at Rc Groups for it, do a search for "Ejf A-10" for a complete build thread, pics and video. Maybe Google will bring it up too.

I assume you're Chris True? I've been reading some of your build-up and it doesn't seem too difficult. My experience with building planes is basically none. My first plane was a joint venture with my brother for a Hobbyzone Super Cub RTF. My current plane is Mini-Pulse XT P-N-P (plug and play) basically I dropped in a receiver and battery. This would be my first kit plane I've ever built, I am mechanically inclined though and can follow directions. Plus I've got your build-up to use also. I am interested to know if you could list a couple different options as far as the motors/esc's/batteries? Since I need two of everything I'm trying to be budget minded when it comes to this project. I've got an A-10 EDF on my simulator and I love to fly it. Thanks!

My freind I am speeking from experience here. Keep in mind I too love the A-10 very much! About 2 months ago I bought the Guanali A-10. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7721360 This is even better than the GWS A-10 mentioned. It needs a ton of upgrades just to get it to fly. Since you dont have any real flying experience you would be best to spend your money on the Hanger 9 P-51 Progressive trainer first and learn how to fly. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3102050/anchors_3102050/mpage_1/key_Hanger%252CP%252D51/anchor/tm.htm#3102050 This is what I did and almost emediatly relized that I was not going to able to fly the A-10 without any training first and I have 6 months experience on heli's!! Its been about a month now on the Mustang and I can fly compentantly but the A-10 is still a strugle to fly. Many other guys are buying the Rafale wich is a much more stable aircraft and is RTF for only a $190. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7721918

Bottom line! save your money on the jets until you learn to fly or you spend more time putting peices back togethor and becoming more dejected than having a good time.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Were all in this together.

Trevor

I would suggest staying with a foamie for a first EDF. There are quite a few receiver ready foamies out there that are very forgiving and still a lot of fun to fly. The foam Rafale that's a subject of a thread here comes to mind, as does the Hobby Lobby (starmax) f18. Either of them are available receiver ready for around 200 bucks. EJF offers a Sport Jet 70 that is a bit more to assemble, but is another excellent flier, with no bad habbits. It's a bit faster than most foamies, and will require a little larger budget to get in the air, but is an excellent airplane. I'd save the A 10 for a second plane, especially since you'll probablly want retracts, and a little more scale detail.

Just my two cents

Andy

I can fly pretty well actually. I'm now starting to do maneuvers with my mini-pulse and I've already been through an electric trainer and now I'm flying a sport plane pretty well. I've got a nitro trainer I'll fly next. I planned on getting an EDF jet trainer first but my birthday is coming up and the only thing I really want is the A-10. I don't think I'd want to buy any of those foam A-10's, I've read too much on the various forums about them how they don't fly at all and I don't trust them at all. I was looking at nitroplanes.com through some of the EDF's but I haven't decided on what to get for a trainer yet. The A-10 probably won't be flown for a while because I plan on first assembling the kit, buying the electronics, then buying the batteries. I'm going to do it in stages. I've also got an A-10 on my flight sim I'm quite good at flying and spend a lot of time flying it.
