I have'nt had a truck in about a year now. I fly airplanes but really miss having a truck so I'm thinking of buying another Savage. I've had a T-Maxx 2.5 and 3.3, a Revo 2.5 and 3.3, a Savage RTR and a Savage kit. I have to say the Savage seems to hold up better in my opinion than the Traxxas trucks. I had a 3 speed tranny in my Savage kit and wish I never sold it. I think I'll buy another Savage and 3 speed for it from Tower. I see there is a Savage XL now too. What do you guys think of it? I'm going to place my order by Monday I think so just wanted to hear what everyone thinks. I'll be using it for back yard running and bashing.

I asked the same question. It's been about two years since I've used my truck and now I'm getting back into. I don't know if I want the Savage X or XL, but I want to get one on Sunday. I made a thread and got a lot of helpful responses and comparisons of the two. Try reading through some of it and I'm sure it will help you as well. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7714030/tm.htm

The XL comes with a three speed and it does a good job of using it. It must have a higher gear in third as the engine takes a big rpm hit and goes right to work when it shifts. First gear is the flip it in its lid gear. ...with ease. BB

My XL on the second day out with it. The first day I ran a little over two quarts of fuel through it, then the next time out I leaned it out a little and shot this video. It was still rich on the low end, but it was hard to keep its nose down. I did not have a wheelie bar then, so I was trying to keep it rich enough to avoid the lid slamming wheelies. It is a fast truck, really fast for a RTR stock out of the box. This video would be at about the three quart mark. I need to take the camera and shoot another one. BB

It's due in at Tower mid month. I think I'll just backorder it from them instead of going somewhere else. Looks awsome in the video.

I really like it, are you a Tower member by chance? I had them send me a gold offer and I cannot find it. With free shipping and that discount, there are some huge savings to be had there. Guess I better go look some more. Maybe I should wait and see if you like yours, sort of a money back guarantee.... BB

I did it! I just placed my order for a Savage XL, it's on backorder from Tower but shows it's due in mid month so it should'nt be long. Can't wait for this one. I want to convert over to a rechargable rx pack and I'll shorten the pressure and fuel line when it arrives. Any other must have mods or parts that would be good to know about would be great if you guys could post them all. How about a pipe? Is there one thats worth it or leave it alone? I almost bought a 2.4 radio to replace the stock one but did'nt.
