I'm sorry for the post here in the electronics section. It's more general, and I don't appear to have the rights to move my topics. I really didn't mean to post this here. Could a mod please relocate this for me?

Over the last couple days I have learned more than my brain can handle. Electric, Nitro, brushless, in. cu, cc.
Electric is very tempting in the performance and low maintenance of brushless. Nitro has quick "recharge" time (fill the tank).

I'm always open to suggestions. I want something "off road", but will be used on the blacktop 80% of the time. Most likely will find a ramp. Here is a few things that have grabbed my interest (in no particular order).

Rustler VXL Probably as pricey as I would like to go for the truck/car.
Sportwerks Reaction Cheap and simple. Worst case scenario I have fun for a little and my little bro gets it for Christmas.
Assosiated T4 Project. Brushless. Not sure if it is pre assembled or if it is a big project for someone getting their feet wet.
Cen Subaru WRX I like the WRX body.
Slash I like the body. Fairly cost effective. I think I could upgrade to brushless if I so desired. I like the water resistant components.

Is there anything I should be worried about with these? I might avoid the Rustler all together, because a guy across the street has one. Another guy has a Jato 3.3, so I would like to come close to not getting dusted.

All input is very much appreciated.

They seem to be. Plus my local hobby shop (20 miles away) carries them, so I would think they have plenty of replacement/upgrade parts if needed.

well If you dont want the rustler because your neighbor has one, your best bet would be an E-Firestorm flux. It comes with a brushless system, all you will need is a battery and a charger.

here is the flux: http://hpiracing.com/kitinfo/10553/ this should be around $300
or you could go with the bandit vxl which is a buggy version of the rustler, and already has brushless.
its only 225 here http://www.ultimatehobbies.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=TRA2408!1008

I like the E-Firestorm flux. I'll be looking at that one for a bit. Thank you both for your thoughts.

I have the e-firestorm (the non brushless one) and that thing is a beast. ive had it for maybe 3 months, and have not broken a single part! The esc fell apart on me, and I put a new one in, and now im frying stuff. (i didnt put the correct esc in), so next weekend, I am putting in a new 12t modified motor, and a new esc. but hey, dont let my troubles get you away from that storm, all the problems were dumb mistakes on my part.

Oh yeah, and scroll down the page of that flux, and somewhere it will say what the best batteries for that truck will be

I have the E-firestorm as well, it's an awesome alternatitive to the T4.
I dont like the associated trucks as much as the Associated buggies.
Last week when I raced it for the 2nd time, I was racing against T4's and a couple XXX-T's as well.
I was able to stand my own ground with this truck against them, they couldnt beileve how well my truck did.

After seeing T4's break all the time I had to get something more durable. I have not broke a single part yet.

Is the Firestorm FLUX released yet? I have only found one retailer that doesn't say their back ordered or sold out. I'm just worried that they are misleading me into a pre-order.

get a traxxas stampede or a slash. dont worry about racing your neighbor, the best driver always wins. the stampede is a sweet jumper and basher.

stampede xl5 rtr
quick charger such as the super brain 977, but a $40 charger will do the job for starters.
2-3 batteries

remember to let the trucks motor cool down after 20 minutes of play.

PLAN HOW MUCH YOU WANNA SPEND ON RCs a year from now. your neighbor may be silly and spend $1000 on his rc stuff. You don't wanna spend $1500 just to beat him in radio control cars???

Simple? Rustler Vxl, Brushless, your lhs carries them, if you get a 3s li-po it could reach 70Mph with the right gearing, the Jato 3.3 is 70Mph i think, so if your worried about that. IMO. plus the Rustler just has an amazing background of history, very durable trucks.

what is the guys rustler? a vxl. a vxl on a 3s lipo will hang with a revo. with the right gearing, it will have a higher top speed(the revo is 4wd, so it will have better traction/weight distrabution)

i have a rusty vxl with a venom 3s lipo...i love it. very fast, 30 minute runtime on one battery. the handling isnt the best you can buy, but its the toughest rc iv owned. rolls and flips end over end and keeps going.
the slash with a vxl power system is cool to tho. iv seen some youtube vids of the slash with brushless, and looks pretty good.

check mine out:

Ya his rusty is VXL. It's stupid how much torque it has (3s lipo).
Well I'm gonna order that E-firestorm flux. The Slash is my next choice if I can't get a flux. I think I would be totally happy with either of them.

Are Trinity Reference NiMH's a good cell?
This looks like a really good price and I should save on shipping by adding it to my order.

i would not recommend the slash at all. i drove one around with some people at my lhs and it sucked. even with lipos it was weak n sluggish. im sure if you wanted to put the time and money into upgrading it could be amazing but stock is no good. i would definitely stick with getting the flux or a stampede vxl both of those are awesome.
