Hello guys,

My friend has a JR 12X on 72Mhz and wants to buy a 2.4Ghz module for it.

Any idea where this could be purchased ?

thanks.

I thought the JR10X was the last 72Mhz only Tx. Isn't the JR12X already a 2.4Ghz only radio that just came out after the X9303 2.4? If it is the 12X 2.4, it dose not support 72Mhz. JR allows you to upgrade Non 2.4 radios, with RF modules, to 2.4, but the newer 2.4 radios cannot support 72Mhz

I have an XP9303 with a Spektrum 2.4 RF module. That module will work in the 10X

Futaba has a 12 channel 2.4 radio that is backwardly compatible with 72Mhz.

Enough folks complained about the 12X being 2.4 only, that JR has two versions - one is 2.4 only, and the other (the 12X-MV, IIRC) is modular and can take 2.4, 72, 35, or whatever in a module, and not lose any performance or functionality on 2.4. Some folks who have the 2.4 only 12X variant report that internally, it is the modular radio, but with the module hard mounted, and a different back.

So, in actuality, the 12X is more of a modular radio after all . . . but in the US, the -MV is sold with both the 2.4 and 72MHz modules. Internationally, I honestly don't know how they are sold, but my suggestion would be to contact the distributor that sold you the radio in the first place. In the US, I would imagine that Horizon would be able to sell just the module . . . just like any other RF module for a JR radio . . .

Well two thoughts here.

First, the 12X MV is not out yet but should be very shortly.

Second, the MV is reportedly only available in the USA through Horizon as they're the ones who wanted a module swappable version.

So I suspect his friend actually has a 10X, the possible solutions to that radio going to 2.4GHz has already been covered.

Does he speak Japanese as well????

The modules for the 12X are 12X specific. Your gonna have to try Horizon....

I can't swear to it, but I thought I had heard that JR Japan had designed the 12X as a purely modular system, simply because there are countries in which 2.4 is not legal, and they didn't want to limit it's market, and it was Horizon that wanted to cripple the US market with 2.4 only, and thus came into play the 2.4 only variant. I can't provide a quote or reference to this, unfortunately, but am pretty positive in my memory thereof, and frankly, it is the only thing that makes much sense . . . limiting a top end radio to only one potential band is just not a very bright move as I see it . . . .

Oh, and a quick check on the JR/Japan web site pretty clearly shows APCM/PCM/SPCM on 72 and 40MHz bands as being part of the 12X, which further supports my memory that the 2.4 only is a Horizon kludge . . .

Tim,

Go to the Download section of the JR website and download Wing 45. There you will see the PCM12X (available on 40/72 MHz) but with a 2.4 GHz Module. The antenna is fixed to the module and (in my opinion) looks bloody horrible !

Remember that the 12X has been available for some time in Japan on conventional frequencies, the technology behind it is also partially available in the Graupner MX24 (but modified with the Profi module).

The 12X as an international beast will be available in both variants, modular for 35/36/40/72 bands , as a dedicated 2.4 GHz variant. The 2,4 GHz module for the 12X will be available at some time in the future (not sure when). Typically the Wings catalogue will show systems that are not yet in production (the 12X was shown in 43 & 44) but are in development.

Yes, the antenna for the modular 2.4 is external, but the functionality is identical (looks like the only diff is on the "dedicated" 2.4, when they put the module internally, they wired the antenna as well . . . ). To me, function is far more important than looks, so would not regard the appearance as much more than about 1 point out of 1000 in terms of my decision process. The inability to run anything but 2.4, for me, is a deal breaker on the non modular system, and the failure of JR to support 50MHz in any version, a total deal breaker on the 12X overall . . .

Once again, this is just my $.02 . . . the main point of my post was to correct the errant prior poster that did not realize that the 12X internationally was *not* a 2.4 only radio, and as such, the 2.4 module should be available at some point . . .

I too am also very disappointed that the 12X does not support the ham frequencies. This time they pissed in their post toasties.

Don't blame JR..... they will manufacture what is requested. If Horizon don't order on those bands, then JR don't build them !

As Horizon would prefer everyone to go to Spektrum (as they own the company) it doesn't surprise me.
