Just bought a losi mini lst2 yesterday and it goes into a thermal shutdown if you go on carpet or grass for 2 seconds or more. It will shut down for 30 seconds and then it will work again. Steering works but not the motor. This is incredible! I have saw on differnet forums where others have had this problem, but saw no suitable solutions. Getting a new esc should not be a solution. I could buy another esc, but why would I take a brand new truck and replace the esc without even 1 hour on the truck. A stock esc should take me some distance before upgrading. This is very disappointing out of the box.

I made sure the gears were messed properly and looked at the wireing, all in fine.

Other than that the truck is Great! Unfortunately it thermals with any kind of load on it. It is a Monster Truck and 4 wheel drive, not a car, so some sort of load is expected.

My Mini LST2 does the same thing. I guess I just get used to turning it off and back on a few times a run.

I would call losi or take it back. You should not have to deal with something like that.

I just bought two Mini LST 2's from West Valley Hobby for my daughters in Salt Lake City Utah last Friday and they are both doing the same thing! You can run them for about five mins and then it will stop moving. You can still steer, but no throttle for about twenty seconds. Then you can go for about another twenty seconds and it stops. I've reset the ESC, I've re-binded the radio to receiver, recharged the battery packs and replaced the batteries in the receivers!! No luck. I called the hobby shop and they told me they would not take them back because they are just the distributor and not the warranter. I'm calling Losi tomorrow if they don't replace these with no fuss, I hate to say it because I've loved every Losi Product I've ever owned thus far I'm done with them. It seems like their product is going down hill IMO.

I had the same issues with the thermal shut downs with my first mlst2 then I took it back and used the store credit to buy part of my jato. Then when the lhs was closing I bought another one and had the same issues again so it set on the shelf for about 6months and then I decided to call Losi and they sent me a new ESC and the problem was cured but seriously this truck is more eggshell then anything. I've rebuilt the tranny several times along with the servo's and the front and rear diffs. I wish I would of just bought another AE 18b or 18t.

Wait a minute, hold the phones... I used to have a Mini LST 1 that I used to run the heck out of before I bought a Mini LST2. The LST1 never had a SINGLE problem at all now that I think about it (except the diffs). The ESC worked perfectly, in the grass, on the dirt for entire pack runs. It never did that thermal shutdown stuff, and electrically it is exactly like the mini LST 2 except the Spektrum radio Tx/Rx. Same motors, same servos, same ESC, same battery.

I wonder if it is the Spektrum radio?? I am going to drop another receiver in there and see if that might have something to do with it. Hmmm... Could be some Rx-ESC interaction thing, I never thought about that.

You might be on to something there because my 1/18th Raminator doesn't do it. I've run the hell out of it including some grass on both NiMh and LiPo with no problem. I don't know what the stock gearing on the MLST2 is but I'm running the stock spur and 25T pinions, so I don't think it's a gearing problem on the MLST2.

Just called Technical Support (horizon hobby). They are sending me out a new esc. He said that this is the first he heard about this happening ..... Imagine that... I would still love to hear about changing radios.
