Is there an upgrade for the Savage that allows a recharbale pack to be installed in the truck instead of using those AA batteries?

Yes. Any 6v hump pack will work. I use them in both my savages.

This may be a stupid question but how do you mount it? Is there an aftermarket battery tray you use or what?

Do you run it through a switch and then directly to the receiver?

DDM has a 6volt flat pack with 4600mah thats awsome this is what im getting next for my savage . i might have to mod the charge port adapter wires but it will work . because this batt is intended for use on the baja5b i think.

Just build a humppack out of 5 Sanyo 2700mah batteries (best batteries in the world....proven). I did that and I've never had a problem with my batteries running out. Remember that I'm running an lst2 which requires 2 steering servos and the ones I'm running are JR650s which are WORLDS better than the steering servo on the savage. I'm using a jr590 for throttle (overkill but I like it). 3 powerful servos and I have yet to come back home because of a discharged humppack.

yeah but its not as big as you think. i wired two flat venom 6volt 1200mah packs together then mounted them on top of the plastic box no worries , the ddm batt would be a breeze to install

I just ordered a 3000 mah hump pack from Horizon to use. Are you guys just hooking it up to an on off switch and then the receiver? I assume you are, makes sense.

The switch is already there. Just hook the pack up the same way the AA battery pack is hooked up. Thats it. Nothing else. Real easy.
