I recently got a RC18MT. I already got a DP gear cover, aluminum dog bones, diff shims, a drag link, and shock caps. The truck also came with a aluminum drive shaft and a heat sink for the speed controller. I haven't had any major problems with the truck. For now I'm trying to stay around the fifty dollar mark. I just do bashing outside. The only thing I could complain about is the leaking shocks. Also, does anybody know about a good pair of tires I could buy. I just run on gravel/cement mainly. I was thinking of the pro line dirt hawg tires but I'm not sure. Thanks: ryan

good tires, pro-line dirt hawgz are awesome for onroad, concrete, loose soil, they can "grip" on harder stuff its just much harder to manintain traction, as for leaking, if its at the top of the shock, pop off the cap and use a little teflon tape to help seal it in better (just make shure not to use to much or its not going to work at all), i know Losi makes some "large pin" tires for the mini baja which maybe good for you, just beware that pin tires can wear down MUCH faster onroad than offroad , gear cover is nice to have also because junk will find its way in one way or another

TheToyz.com is one of the best places for mini upgrades. I use my RC18MT as a pure basher, so this might not apply for racing. Using stock 10/60 gearing.

RPM wide front bumper to protect things. Forget the DP drag link, one good hit in the right place will snap it or the servo saver control arm. Upgrade to the aluminum steering set. You don't need the aluminum drag link, mainly looking for the aluminum control arm for the servo saver. The DP gear cover is a must, especially if you drive in dusty conditions. If you don't mind the un-scale look of 1/10 touring tires on your car, I usually recommend the adapters to use them. A good set of rally tires like HPI Pirelli (road or hard/dusty surface) or Losi Pins (grass/dirt) work well and last long. Lower the suspension and put gold springs in front and blue in rear to combat tippiness. You can also use 1/10 mini wheels if you want wheel that aren't so tall. Also, if you want something maintenance free, go brushless. Go with a Castle Creations Sidewinder/Motor combo. It's the cheapest route (~$110). If you want it to be a drivable basher and not for speed runs, stay under 7000kv for 6-cell nimh or just under 6000kv for 2-cell lipo. You can always gear up for more speed. You can go brushless for ~$70 if you search for suitable parts @ hobbycity. Their stock is always changing, let me know and I'll post some links to in stock parts. Lastly, stay away from too much aluminum. Expensive to replace, adds momentum to a crash and isn't springy like stock parts. I tend to use aluminum parts only where flex/breakage is bothering the cars handling.

Support your LHS. Call to see what they have in stock. They keep the hobby alive. My LHS carries all the parts I mentioned for only a dollar or two more than online. Plus you get to have it NOW rather then later
