Does anyone know specifically what brand of balance tap the A123 made packs come with (I have the 6.6V 4600's)?

I believe that A123Racing uses the hyperion taps. If you have a different style balancer you can buy or make an adaptor.

No, its definitley not a hyperion - I have a hyperion duo charger, and they dont match up. Maxamps told me they couldnt match it either. Looks like I need to make my own.

Really sucks when manufactures dont/wont back up their claims with information. Cant get either A123 or Hyperion to provide data on this (actually, hyperion doesnt even give the consumer a way to contact them as far as I know).

I got A-123 packs from Cheapbatterypacks.com and they came with Polyquest (hyperion) taps.

That's funny, if you go to the A123Racing website they only sell hyperion chargers so you'd think they were using hyperion taps... There are really only 3 major styles out there, Thunder Power, Align and Hyperion.... you should be able to take it into the local hobby store and check it.

The other thing you can do is use a blinky balancer which has no connectors, just the pins.

This is the response I recieved from A123 this morning.

Thank you for your interests in A123 batteries.

There are two versions. 1) 6.6V 4600mAh sold from Horizon hobby or A123racing web sales had Molex balance tap. You can charge battery pack with Hypeion charger without balancing.

2) New version of 6.6V 4600mAh from distributors(please refer 'Where To Buy'
at a123racing.com) has PQ type balance tab and this is compatible with Hyperion charger perfectly.

In case of above 1), it has one wire for balance tab. It is right that you thought if you want to charge the pack with Hyperion charger.

If you have further questions, please contact us or ask A123racing distributors.

Customer Support..

I believe the ones I have are version 1 above (I bought them off EBay, though). My pack only has one orange wire going into a black 3 pin connector (which does NOT match any of the connectors on a Hyperion - the smalles they have is a 5 pin). In the email I sent, I had asked if I needed to wire in a "+/-" wire to the tap for balancing, and I think he confirmed that with "In case of above 1), it has one wire for balance tab. It is right that you thought if you want to charge the pack with Hyperion charger". But on the other hand, he also said that for version 1, I dont need to balance them. I'm still slightly confused.

Where do you see Hyperion chargers on the A123 website? They are Hypersonic Chargers. Nothing even close to the Hyperion line. Unless I am missing something there?

It looks like a 50-57-9403 it mates with a 70107-0002-2
MFG. by Waldom Molex

With a #11 blade you can make it fit a female servo plug.
