Status: offline 		Does anyone know if I can substitute this battery - https://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1827

for this one - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFE05&P=V ??

The voltage and dimensions are the same but one is NiCad and 1500 mAh and the other is Ni-MH and 4500 mAh.

I'm thinking it'll work because it's the same voltage and will just last longer. I need it for a glow starter - this one:

and plan on using the wall wart that comes with it to charge the new Ni-MH. Anyone know if this should work?

Status: offline 		It will work just fine. Wal-wart will charge it. Divide mili-amps of battery 4500 by output of wal-wart to get time needed for full charge. Should take about three times as long to charge, because it has three times the capacity of the standard battery.

and a multiplex charger http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKSY1&P=ML which says it has a charge current of .1 to 5 amps.
Would it be safe to set it at 5 amps and if so how do you divide 4500mAh by 5 amps?

60(1 hr) multiply by 0.9(see above) = 54mins

It should take 54 mins to charge 4500mah bat at 5amps.

Status: offline 		Cappa, the Tower battery will last you for days FYI. The one at All-Battery is a high capacity output, I'm not sure if that's better or worse for a glow ignitor.

When I recharge my glow driver, I usually only have to replace 500-600 ma, and I fly WAY more than anyone else at my field in a single day. I have 1600mah ignitor battery.

Status: offline 		I wouldn't charge it at 5amps. The battery will get hot if you do and that really is not good for it.
I would suggest no more than 2amps tops. 1 amp is even better.

Status: offline 		I agree with Missleman. While you "can" charge it at 5 amps that doesn't mean it's the best for it. High current fast charges create a lot of heat in a battery as well as reduce the overall life of the battery. Plus, the more current you pump into a battery the more risk of failure and fire you have. Charge the battery at a lower amperage whenever you can.

I couldn't get the Sanyo battery from Tower, as they are on back order until September, so I searched for a replacement and the only ones All-Battery had were high mAh ones.
I ordered two different ones so I'll go with the lower mAh one for now.

So I figure at 1 amp it should take about 4.5 hours.
