In case you don't have it, here's a link to the owner's manual
http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/6xas-hs-manual.pdf

Is this the same one you have?

The reason why it's not working is because the percentage set on the dual rate is how much lower low rate is than the full rate. So, if you have the dual rates set at 100% then the low rate will move the same exact distance as the high rate. But if you lower that to 60%, for instance, then the control surface will move only 60% of what the full rate does. So try lowering the dual rate setting and see if it doesn't work for you.

When the dual rates are off, the channels are set to 100%

If the dual rates are set to 100% there will be no difference between when they are on or when they are off.

Change the dual rates from 100% to 50%, 60% or 70% and you'll see a difference

Generally you set the plane mechanically to have the greatest amount of throw in the control surfaces, and have your high rates at 100%, then set your low rates to something like 60% for easier flying. If you need more out of your plane on high rates, you can increase to 120% or something.

This is not correct. If you set the plane mechanically for the greatest amount of throw on a control surface and then increase the throw to greater than 100% in the radio you will either damage the servo, damage the linkages, damage the control surface, or create a binding that can create a large draw on the battery that will drain the battery quickly. If you need to increase the amount of throw on a control surface you need to do it mechanically on the plane, and not use radio settings as this will cause problems.

Oh thanks for the correction Ken. I meant to say to set the throw to the recommended settings (in the manual) and you can get a little more out of the plane using the radio. Was thinking of two things at once.

And IMO Ken SHOULD have said that it MAY cause a problem and not WILL. It won't always be bad but needs careful evaluation from plane to plane. Even 2 seemingly identical planes may have different problems.
