Well, this weekend I had some extra cash from a side job that I did, I wanted to get a new back up engine (a good one) I got the ok from the wife and bought a second C6BBII. I got out the break in stand and started the break in process(heat up to 200 and fire it up for 2 min. keep up in the 200s then shut down @ bdc to cool as I always do), it was going well, but on the second tank it started to flame out, I figured no problem, put in a new plug and started it again and the same thing... flameout over and over. This is the killer part.... I figured I'd check the pinch while it was still warm and it turned over pretty easily . I let it cool, then checked it and it didn't have much pinch when cool. I took the head off and the piston/sleeve is worn like it has 9 gallons on it, I dont understand what went wrong, I've broken in all of my engines the same way and they have lasted several gallons. I even make sure there is no shavings in the engine by flushing out with denatured alcohol re-lube and and re-assemble. I'm sure some people here are against the break in stands but I higlhly doubt that killed it as I'm very careful with the throttle and temps. I'm too sick to be mad right now, we all know this is in no means a cheap engine. I have no idea how to tell the wife, she knows I was pretty excited about this and I'm sure she will ask how it went . Maybe it was user error but I don't know where??? Sorry for the long sap story but I'm pretty bummed right now, just figured I'd share this with everone.

Take care everyone!!!

possible that you started off EXTREMELY lean and no oil was getting in the engine...
i'm sure you could somehow pass it off as DOA and get a new one, it must be tough convincing your wife to let you buy it, and then tell her that it is broken(which is why secrecy was invented)
just send it back for a new one.

It is possible i got a bad engine, but this would be the first RB, I've had nothing but good luck with them.

Well, instead of dealing with the hassle, I'll just get a new piston and sleeve for it at 175.00 and try again...I guess, oh well... you win some and you loose some, At least this didnt happen with my modded engine!!!!! Thats what the wife just said!!!!

I feel your pain, been there done that! It sounds if you did everything right but I have to ask, what kind of smoke were you getting and did you get any fuel or oil out of the exhaust? Did you contact RB and see what they have to say by chance?

It was definatly tuned right for break-in, just shy of four stroking, and yes, spitting oil all over the bench I was using. Im not sure if RB will do anything... probably call it user error, theese companies don't seem to want to give anything away for free, who knows how long I would have to wait if they do send me an engine or P/S.... I guess I could give it a shot though.... got nothing to loose. Thanks.

Wow well good luck man, with as hard as it is to come by some "extra" coin nowadays I hope it all works out for you...........best of luck. If it makes you feel any better my wife just smiles and says she see's me doing another side job to pay for my first side job. So I truly know your pain, been there. Almost forgot to add, the bummer part of the side job thing for my "toys" is she also see's me doing a side job for those ear rings she been eyeing hahahaha!

I agree. Get hold of where you got it from. From everything I have read from Rody they will do anything they can to make it right but you have to go through where you got the motor. I dont think you will have a problem getting a replacement for it or getting it fixed.

they don't remachine the piston, they only repinch/repair pinching mistakes.
His P&S was damaged to an extreme, due to wear(obviously some dents and stuff like that in it) so i doubt a repinching would save him.

I had a rb c5bb was nothing but trouoble from day one. It never did run longer than 3 to 4 min then die. After over a year of replacing carb seal, pisto sleeve bearings and countless amounts of glow plugs, the problem showed its self. The lower case was cracked.
Not that yours has any issue like this, Im just glad to hear somone eles is have rb issues. Not glad for you, it sucks droppen 400 bucks on a engine that wont run worth a crap.
In your case, I would contact RB and explain to them what is up, worst thing that could happen is they dont help you out. Best thing is they replace it. In my case, it was over a year before I found the issue and nothing can be done now. I could get a new case and have a new RB, but after all that engine put me through, I doubt I ever grab anothe RB again.
