Hi Mike, if I were to program the overload protection for the 7955 to say 70%, what will happen if there is an external torque overload on the servo? Will the servo amp burn, or will the servo arm be forced to rotate in the direction of the external torque load (without burning the amp)? Thanks

With the overload protection activated, the servo will reduce the torque (current) as needed to protect the amp from burning up.

Mike.

Hi Mike, I understand that the servo will have a reduced max torque with the overload protection activated. My question is what will happen to the servo mechanically and electrically if the external torque is higher than the reduced max torque? Will the servo arm be forced to rotate (under the external torque)? Will the amp be damaged? Thanks again

I don't really understand your scenario with constant external force?

The torque output will continue to be reduced to prevent overload and damage to the amp.

Mike.

Hi Mike, no what I meant was an increasing external torque until the external torque exceeds the holding torque of the servo. Will the servo arm be forced to rotate in the direction of the external torque?

Since the holding torque of a digital servo is much higher than the standing (movable) torque I would think that it wound not move.

Mike.
