I’ve got a bit of a problem with the Tiger, only noticed it today. With the gun fully elevated and turning the turret to the right (looking from the rear of the tank) the turret jams with the gun facing roughly sideways. Suspecting something had come adrift I disassembled the tank but could find nothing obvious. The problem doesn’t occur with the gun in depression or when parallel to the ground, only when elevated.

Looking at the cable that connects the elevation unit to the small board on the underside of the hull the insulation has clearly been abraded. It seems that when the gun is elevated it creates slack in the cable, when traversing the turret right this creates more slack and the cable fouls the receiver board. When the turret is traversed left this takes all the slack out of the cable with just enough to spare without straining the connection.

Any attempt to alter the cables position to avoid it snagging the board will cause problems when the turret is turned fully left.

Is the only solution to this not to have the gun elevated when traversing the turret to the right or has someone come across this before and found a solution?

Thanks lads,

Stan.

Sounds like the bottom of the bb gun is catching on something.

Hi Woz,

It’s definitely the cable fouling the receiver board, and I’ve just cured it. I took a piece of very shiny plastic card and mounted it between the two screw posts that secure the top plate to the hull (close to where the turret is). The cable now slides over the plastic card instead of the receiver board on which it was snagging.

I’ve beefed up the insulation on the cable with PVC electrical tape so that it and the plastic card will take any further punishment instead of the cable and the board. The plastic card is self lubricating to some extent and there's no chance of it causing a short if it comes loose (very unlikely).

There’s no further jamming, whatever the elevation of the gun or position of the turret.

The job’s a good ‘un.

Good work! Pictures are always welcome and will someday help a new guy not yet a tank owner when he does a search looking to cure the same problem.

Thanks James.

The camera is the problem at the moment, the rechargeable battery's are buggered. I'll hunt down the AC adaptor and take some pics next time the tanks open.
