Okay i got my revo 3.3 broke in and having loads of fun. I was just wondering what tip & tricks that some of you guys have. I have done a couple already. I have a stock revo 3.3 with about 9 tanks through it including break in.

Also could someone post how they clean around the glow plug hole. mine is dirty.

1.Marked the flywheel for BDC
2. Cleaned it by blowing it off with an air compressor and some rags

Thank you to anyone who has replied.

P.S Im new to nitro (NEWB)

1.If u want the engine to last as long as possible(which I am sure u probably do), make sure to ALWAYS run the engine, tank, and fuel lines COMPLETELY dry of fuel BEFORE putting after run oil in it

2. To clean out the area around the glow plug hole, use a soft q-tip or something else that has a soft tip to it, stick it down in there and "swish" it around in circles back and forth several times to get most if not all the dirt out.

3. Like the manual should tell ya, if u have the stock air filter, (which I am assuming u do), make certain to clean it after each HOUR of running time, This will keep the airflow pattern into the filter free and un-obstructed.....

This is about all I can think of for now...I may think of more later and may come back to edit as needed....

Yes, u can do that also which should work to clean out the dirt and grime around the glow plug hole....just remember, BEFORE u take out the glow plug, look to make sure there is NO dirt that may possibly have a chance of entering the combustion chamber via the glow plug hole, as running it from that point will cause a whole mess of other problems u want nothing to do with....

Here is a good tip to add to your glow plug removal; after you clean the area around it, rest the revo upside down at a slight angle. Keep the revo engine off to the edge of the table or work bench and now break the glow plug free and remove it. This will help insure than no bits of dirt will fall into the motor when you take the plug out. And more than likely you will get your washer to come off with the plug so you dont have to fish it out and cause more dirt to fall into the motor. If you do need to fish it out, you can rest assure that any dirt will not fall into the motor due to it being upside down. Before you reinstall your plug you can clean the area while its upside down to prevent dirt from falling into the motor as well.

Here is another good tip to help prolong the life of your motor. Since your engine is still tight from break in, you can heat the engine head with a hairdryer before you start it each time. Getting your temps up to operating range is important to a longer life of a nitro motor. The key is to keep your temps up and try not to run it cool, thats were you start tearing away alot of life of the piston and sleeve fit. I like to run a bit rich with high temps during the first gallon, this helps add alot of life to your motor. If you are having trouble keeping your temps up and staying a bit rich, you can help achieve this by useing just the right amount of tape around the top of the head. If you got a really good break in, you should get plenty of power even with it on the rich side and controling temps by wraping the head.

You should always cut a cooling hole out of the front window and just block it off to what ever amount you need to with clear tape to help control temps at speed.

I got alot more if your interested, reverse the clutch shoes for longer bearing life and longer clutch life, switch the throttle return spring for a lower tention one, locktite your wheel nuts, get a traxxas wing mount and then a wing of your choice to protect the engine and mount and acts as a wheelie bar, if you got the older revo with reverse, switching the linkage to the inner hole on the mini reverse servo will prolong its life . And if your is the older revo, I dont like two servos for the steering, they have potential of fighting one another. Going to one servo like the newer style is less hassle and lower potential for problems. Getting the revo throttle adjusted with no binding is important as well. It usually very sloppy from the factory, but can be fine tuned if you understand how to adjust your trim so the horn lines up for enough throw and getting the angle on the carb right and the arm straightened out.

I can help explain the reversal on the clutch shoes and the throttle spring thing if you like. They are issues on the revo that most guys either dont know about or just dont understand

I just thought of another one, take your slipper adjusting nut off and drop a bit of locktite on the threads and tighten it back down properly. Make sure you dont get too much on or it will not work correctly. This will prevent the nut from coming loose over time which alot of revo guys incounter later on and end up over tighting it to prevent it. I run a nice setting that lets me wheelie and still slip over alot of stuff. It really prolongs your drivetrain. My revo has had more than a few motor in it including a .32 axial and is still runing with reverse P

I would strongly recommend getting a temp gauge if your going to stick with this hobby. Tunning by performance, smoke and sound is the correct way, but having a temp guage can help you learn how to tune without destroying your motor. Use temps as a guideline only and to help diagnose problems as you go.

I like to heat my engine to at least 100 degrees before my initail start of the day. During breakin, I heat it up alot more with a hairdryer to get a nice break in. I find it makes a difference in power and life if you heat the head during break in. If you do not heat your head its not going to do anything serious, you just might miss out on some of the life of your motor and power through out its life span. If you keep it inside and take it out and try and fire it up right away when your motor is cool from the airconditioning, thats were it does alot of wear and tear on the piston and sleeve.
