Well Im actually doing pretty good with my new trx 3.3 engine but after taking my truck to the track today I had some other problems.

1. Is there an upgrade or stronger skid plate? I broke the back one in half on my first couple jump attempts. (Part car part me sucking at jumping)

2. The rear wheels seemed to be spinning faster than the front and it made the car very hard to control. I bought it used and dont know what diff fluids are in there.

3. Landing hard but for this Ill look at steve slaydens setup to get a good spring/shock fluid to start from.

4. Possibly a combiniation of the above but I could not get any good air or length to my jumps so it was hard to adjust for landings.

5. When I took the car apart for the first time a few months ago I could not open the diff housing so could someone tell me how to do that; I really dont want to break it.

Any help is appreciated and Im just starting out with finding a racing set up so even if you dont have a comment to the above still leave some racing tips.

Thanks

1. aluminum skid plates are available but stock work well (lol - better driving)
2. If you pull the front & rear diffs to change fluid: heavier fluid works to make both wheels (front or back pair) spin together like a diff lock, for overall power distribution to front and rear you need a center diff
3. 50k shock fluid works good
4. ?
5.?

hopefully others can help with 4&5

First off thankyou soooo much because out of the 24 people that veiwed it your the only person to answer. But anyway I would think for steering the front fluid should be lighter than the rear?

Well I can try and help u out here with #5. For that one, u have to take it out of the space/area where it connect to the output yoke which is what connects it to the drivehsaft(s), and there should be 4-5(or possibly more) hex screws holding it together, just simply unscrew them, take them out and 2 halves of the diff case should come apart pretty easily. Just be careful that if and when they do come apart that u take note of what parts go where so u can carefully put them back in after cleaning.....let me know if u need more explanation on this one...and I will try to dig up a exploded view/diagram off of the traxxas siite of the front and/or rear secion(s) of the truck which has the diff cases and numerous other components.....

for the diff fluid i do run lighter in the front like 50k and 100k in the rear
check manual and traxxas site for exploded views of diff like matts stated
none of these will really make you jump higher or farther but will assist on landing
faster approach speed and a high angle jump give air and breakage lol

The skid plate is fine broke of like that. As long as it is still protecting the trans from impact, it is fine.

Actually, a center diff will really help with the wheel spin as it control all that. Thts why most people use them when racing.

Stiffer springs should help with the hard landings. Is it bottoming out or is there no suspension movement on landings?

I'm not sure about the air time problem. Maybe a center diff will help with that also? Do u have any aluminum upgrades or anything that will add extra weight on it?

For the diff dissasembly, do as matt said. There should only be 4 screws holdings the case to the ring gear.

Thanks guys I really started to lose hope on here. Im not really sure what bottoming out is but but if its when the back of the car hits hard on landings than thats what its doing. I have some stiffer springs Ill try and Ill change the shock oil to 50wt. The center diff and diff fluids Ill have to wait to change because they cost money but they will be done soon.

I think I have enough info to get started so Ill start working on it and try to figure the rest out.

For starts, just put the stiffer springs and the center differential in first. Then see how it runs. Remember that when u put a center diff in, it becomes forward only. No reverse.

I second what racemaxx said here; especially putting putting not just stiffer springs, but also a bit thicker shock oil in the shock may help with that as well...I know it seems to have helped for my revo; as I put the sifftest springs traxxas has on the truck front and rear and went from 30 to 40 weight shock oil, and it did seem to help out the sagging and the bottoming out...

If you are going to take the diffs apart I would get a new set of spider gears and gaskits. Some extra shims will help you get a snug mesh so the gears will last a hole lot loger. I run 50k front and 30k in the rear. I like my suspention really soft but that is just me. The center diff is nice. Make sure you get some 500,000k diff oil when you buy one. The stock diff oil is 100000k and will cause the power to unlaod at the front.
