I'm inquiring for a friend-His ys110 HS needle postion needs to be out almost 4 turns to keep it running? any less and it dies on lower throttle. The regulator is almost flush, maybe a 1/2 turn from being so. But turning it in would lean the engine??? shoudn't this engine run in an area of 1 1/2 to two turns out. What should we look for.

The HS needle is affected by the regulator screw's position, and vice-versa, so you may have to adjust them both in small increments until you find the right setting. The regulator sounds like it's close, so set the HS needle first. Lean the engine until you see maximum RPMs, then richen it just a shade until the RPMs drop three or four hundred from the high reading. Then check the mid-range by throttling back to around 4000 and adjust the regulator to smoothest running. Go back and re-check and adjust the HS again if necessary, and go back and forth fine tuning them both until you can make no further improvements. Then set the LS air bleed to smooth idle. You may need to make very slight adjustments to the regulator setting once you get close to get the idle smooth, but don't stray very far from the setting you achieved at the beginning. Give the engine several seconds after any adjustment to respond to it, don't get in too big a hurry. And make sure you are using at least 20% nitro or the idle will be hard to get smooth.

Bottom line is this: the correct setting for anything is "where it runs best". The published "factory stteings" are just a good place to start.

Thanks David for the detail. I understand factory settings, but 4 turns. I'm having him go through his set up and make sure no leaks, ect... and then we will follow your procedure very carfully and with patience. We are using the YS 20/20 fuel.
Thanks for the reply.

Check the airbox gasket. Sounds like you may be sucking air somewhere. I've heard that is a likely place.

Blessings, Terry
