i have run from .07-.18 for years, this is my first .28, im worried that im over heating it, its a force .28 and its supposed to run 270

but i have always been running 210 with smaller engines.

im worried that im running too hot, even though its blubbery rich and has a nice smoke trail, but after each run it smells hot, i get some white smoke and i can hear the carb boiling oil.

how long should a drip test take to boil water? i have never invested in a temp gun, and i have never had a problem with tune or wear.

it sometimes gets hot, and it flames out, but its rich and i have no binding problems, when i try to adjust low speed, it has maybe 1/8 of adjustment or it kills the engine. i replaced with new hose and i dont have any leaks.

i run mostly in short grass now, but will run a track soon.

am i running hot?

could it be that im running too slow or the idle too high?

Just buy the Duratrax Infrared Thermometer from your LHS for 20$
You'll be glad you did.
Nitro engines, no matter WHAT the type... really don't get any better performance if leaned over 230-240F
Their happy spot is actually around 215-230F, though no harm happens when running 240-250, and no noticable performance degradtion occurs.
That set aside, why would you want to run hot if you get same performance running a bit more rich?
If you are seriously running 280 rich, then get better fuel. Your fuel obviously doesnt have the required amount of lubricant.
Another possibility is inadequate cooling, do you have a hole in your body that directly opens air to your engine head? You cant let it sit and idle all day and expect it to not overheat.. lol

Also, running in short grass puts alot of strain on the engine and you tend to go alot slower in grass then on a track leading to inadequate cooling as well. You will probably see a nice temp drop once you get it out on the track when it is supposed to be ! Also, running in grass is really bad on clutches too, so you might want to keep a close eye on them as well.

280 degrees is to close to to 300 which is engine death if achieved to often. If I run my buggy in grass temps jump atleast 30 degrees higher. I have not heard of optimum temp for engines being 215-230 my RB wakes up at 240 turns into the HULK at 255 . It will run all day at the temp and not miss a beat. also some larger engines like richer low ends. try going back to factory settings and tuning hsn 1st. don't tune in grass tune when she warms up to atleast 220. some engines run hotter you should definitely have a temp gun to check your engine. tune to perfomance check temps to protect from overheating.

Don't try to tune your engine with a temp gun. It is just a way to check that you are not going over 300 deg. F. I run several different engines and the operating temp is different for all of them. As long as you are over 200F and under 300F with a good trail of smoke and your performance is good, that is all you need. So many people waste time trying to hit magic numbers that don't exist. Engine temps can change from day to day, air temp, relative humidity, fuel nitro %, glow plug new or old, and more can all can effect temp from day to day.

Most new gen engines run around 110 - 120 deg/c that should be around 220 - 260 deg/f
Temp is used as a refernce point and i tune for performance with a visible smoke trail and double check with spit on the head.
The spit should take 3-5 seconds to evaporate but not sizzle.
You need to reference a few things.
Sometimes you can have smoke but may be lean on teh bottom end or vice versa so when in doubt go to factory settings or ask someone with experience for a 2nd opinion.

Have noticed though that the larger engines do run hotter .

Exactly!
10 egines of the same make and model will peak perform at different temps with different settings. no 2 engines are the same. start over from the beging factory settings. once a tune is lost its hard to regain starting at the beging is the easiest way to retune your engine. for what ever reason I never was not able to lean my hsn past factory settings. i'm actually 3 hours before factory and 3 hours lean on lsn.

Have never had any hassles with the Force motors be it .21, .25 or .28
For the price of these motors and there application they are a bargain.
Ive seen BO3 motors have issues, Hyper 21's, Rb's, JP's , Collaris and many more.........
Always the product gets blamed and in most cases its teh user that was incompetant or ill advised.

Why is it that when a guy breaks his car its the manufacturers problem or bad quality, why is it when a motors bearings fail or conrod breaks or it has a bad tune its teh manufacturers fault or bad quality ??
Read almost any problematic post and teh most common thing between them are the users of the products.

If there was issues with Force motors you think OFNA, Caster and other companies would still be buying from them ????
