Hey guys, I am a complete newbie here when it comes to electric trucks. I bought my DT two weeks ago and have a few questions and or concerns, and yes, i did do a search but man there is a lot of info and it gets overwhelming. I have always run nitro but just got out of that and am now trying to learn electric with my DT and E-Maxx.

My first question is this. I tried to run a 7 cell 4200 in my Losi and it ran good at first but soon became very sluggish. Was this a bad idea, did I screw something up? I am worried that this might have been a mistake. but I acted before i researched..oops.

Also, I have two current batteries. 1 is a Venom 6-Cell 7.2V 4600mAh NiMH Battery
3600 which I am very unhappy with. Bad power, and short run time. The second is a Team Orion Rocket Stick Pack 7.2V GP3900 NiMH which is much better and am quite happy with.

All I want to know is if there is a battery out there that you all recomend for the best performance/ run time for these truck. I would like better response etc.. but dont want to have to try a bunch of batteries to find the best. Thanks guys.

well, you shouldnt have ruined it. Let me guess, the 7 cell was a duratrax stick pack. I have had about 3 of them, they are awesome for a while but then after a month they die. My brother actually made one of the cells explode during driving, we say smoke and we ripped the body off and threw the battery and one of the cells popped and was all nasty, melted some of the chassis also. If you are talking about the truck being ruined, no way it shouldnt be. If it is it might just be the motor. try driving some more with the other packs and see what happens. Good luck and welcome.

Yea, you guessed it. I bought two of them for my emaxx and decided to try one in my DT. I didnt have it in their very long. Maybe I had a bad charge, I dont know. What I do know is that I just would like to find a good all around battery with the best power possible for this truck. I cant afford to go the brushless route right now. If you go brushless is there great improvement even if you dont run LIPOs.

i agree with that comment. SPC.

And yes there is a huge improvement over stock with brushless. Just to give you a picture, my pede went 27.4 stock. Now with a castle creations sidewinder 5700 it goes 47.23. both with a 7 cell.

Your first problem is you didn't read the manual for your brand new truck. If you would have, you would have seen in the Safety Precautions section on Page 2...

"Do not attempt to use 3-cell lipo or 7-cell NiMH doing so will damage the esc and could result in a fire"

Second of all I have had 4 of the duratrax side by side packs and they have been great for me. The Team Orion packs are also good, I have a few of the 4600 packs and they been fine.

yep, thats just it, you have the side by side pack. I have one (6 cell right) and it has been awesome. After like 5 months it still works ok.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will look into the SPC's....sounds good. I checked my truck today and everything is fine. No harm that I can tell. I did read my owners manual but must of just got carried away by the fact that the seven cell fit. I just wasnt thinking when I did it.

Anyway, I do want to go brushless and i see that Losi makes a brushless motor....any advice on that? Also, I dont really want to switch over to LIPO , aand from what was said by fusebmx13, you dont have to right, good power will still result from a stick 6 cell...But the reality of it is that I should probably wait a bit and save up some coin. I have gotten rid of my nitro/supplies which has helped me out so far but just need to be content w stock for awhile I guess. Just making plans now so I can figure out which routes to take along the way. thanks for the help.
