Guys,
I think I know what may be wrong but before I get out next time to test my "theory" I thought I would ask for advice. The engine is on a 35% Trueworthy Pitts M-12. With out the cowl on the plane the engine starts and idles/runs great. With the cowl on the engine "primes and pops" normally with the choke on. After choke is off the "trouble" kicks in.....it starts on the 3 or 4 flip (normal) but runs for a few seconds then dies. WITHOUT re-choking, the engine will start again on 1 or 2 flips and do the same thing. It will do this 4 or 5 times after which it requires re-choking to get it to start this process over. After doing this 2 or 3 times and varying the throttle a few clicks up and down, it will start, "clean-out" and run great.

The cowl has "air-dams" and baffles to get the air flow to and through the cylinders. These baffles partially block the airflow down to and around the carb. I am assuming that maybe with the cowl on the carb is not getting as much "free air" as without the cowl on and the low end is essentially a bit rich because of this. I was going to lean out the low end a bit next time out to test this theory. Like i said however....once running and "cleaned out and warmed up", the engine runs great...both in the air and on the ground..with maybe just a bit of low end rich gurgle....

Thanks For any comments or suggestions....

Steve
