Here is what I have formed as an opinion on the two. The two trucks were a Stampede, and a E-warhead. They are really hard to compare just because they are like night and day driving. One thing is the same, 2wd or 4wd, they are both high CG mt's. Both designed to go over stuff that most St's cannot. The two are both fun to drive at different times and I have had a hell of a time trying to decide which I would rather drive. Although the bigger 1/8 does require more upkeep and more work to tune, it's really not bad at all. The truck is rock solid, and I don't even bother tuning it. It's a lot of work to change all shocks to a different setup, so I just leave it. It works fine, stable enough, and I really can't complain. One flaw that the bigger truck has is that everything is MORE. It takes MORE power, MORE work, MORE knowledge overall. I have owned 2wd St's/Mt's most of my time in R/C. I really got hooked on them. They are simple, and I can fix them on a dime. I know the trucks like the back of my hand, they are cheap to keep running and to upgrade, and you can have a great time with them if you know where to drive. A lower car like the Stampede for example is mainly good on street, short grass, light dirt running. All though most people think of big Mt's for their ability to climb mountains and just roll over any terrain, it's much more. It's the feeling they have while you're driving them. They have a solid feeling that you can predict. For example, I love going to Lake Havasu. Our friends have a boat that's just like ours, but 6 ft longer, and much taller. I have always been envious, but I never minded it. One day I rode in their boat. Let me just say, what felt like bumps in our boat felt like nothing in this boat. It's the same with these two Mt's. It's not that the Stampede CAN'T go over big rocks and stuff, it's just how it does it. You need to get some speed, and keep your momentum up. This bigger Mt can go over everything that the Stampede can, but much easier. Even just driving on street, grass, and dirt, the bigger Mt I found funner to drive. The 4wd is amazing, throwing dirt every way, stopping on a dime, and a rocket takeoff. I am not saying that someone can't have fun with a Stampede. I did for 2 solid years and I never once complained. The Stampede gave me everything I wanted and I had to actually FIND stuff to do on it. The thing was simple. With this new truck, at first I didn't know what to think. Sure it was big, but it was a TANK. I really cannot explain what it's like. The feeling of driving it is just like, BRING IT ON! I have about $600 into my Stampede, and just recently I realized something. There is NOTHING else I would rather do to my Stampede. Sure, it could be a little faster, maybe a little stronger (not that it ever breaks), and that would probably satisfy me for a few more months until I got bored. The truth is, at the end of the day, it's still a Stampede and 2wd. That's when I realized that it was time to step it up. I felt I knew everything about the Stampede, and I was ready to move on. So here is my verdict... If you have the cash, a little time, and a basic knowledge of R/C and how they work, I say go for a big 4wd. If you don't drive very often, looking for speed, not willing to do much work, and just want a fun car you can bump and crash around, go for a smaller st or even a Mt like the Stampede. I find the Stampede a great car because it has the higher ground clearance of something like a big 4wd Mt, but it's simple like the St's. For most people, I would say skip the Stampede, and just get a 1/10 st. I think I have covered mostly everything, when my nicer XL motor gets here, I might feel differently. Here are a couple of videos that I feel demonstrate the differences between the two. Like I said, just watching a video doesn't really do the trick. It helps to drive one and really test it's limits. I will use two members of Rcu. Takedown - http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=brushless+savage&sitesearch=# (brushless savage, it's the top video BRUSHLESS SAVAGE 2) fusebmx13 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VcuSbzYCEs If it was just based on the video, the Stampede IMO looks a little funner. It really comes down to what you want. I'm really not 100% convinced that I want the brushless Warhead, but it's a gamble I'm willing to take. Edit - with mixed feelings, I am looking to sell my Stampede.
