Hi all and thanx for checking this post. I have a Hangar 9 P-47 150 size with a fairly new Evolution 35GT2. I need some suggestions as I can't get the engine to start. It will choke, but nothing after that. I know tht it is getting gas and the plug is good because it chokes. sometimes, after attempting to start it after choking, it will backfire when I turn the ignition off.

Has anyone run into this issue? Or does anyone have any suggestions how to fix it? Thanx for you help.

Andrew

Hi!
You have to turn the engine over at full choke and do this for several minutes so the fuel gets to the carb!
This is something you will have to do every time the fuel has evaporated from the carb.

So be prepaired to turn the engine over at full choke for at least 3-5min until the fuel gets to the carb.
Then turn on the ignition on and flip the prop vigorously whit the carb set to idle. After a few flips the engine should start!

Hi Jan - thanks for the info. But after trying a number of times, I am convinced that the carb has fuel. Any other ideas?

there are only 3 things that make a engine run, Air, Fuel and Spark.

Try hooking battery direct to ignition.
Double check battery for voltage
Install new plug, I have seen new plugs not work
Check for air leaks around carb and engine block.

If possible find another ignition and give it a try

If it hits on the choke but won't start on a open choke, Open the high speed needle 1/2 turn and try again. Choke first until it hits then open the chock and try and start it. Dennis

Thanks Dennis - I'll Give that a try. But I may have found the problem - I dont know. I pulled the carb and found a broken "O" ring the one that goes on the carb output tube into the engine body. But I don't know if that could cause the problem as its a very tight fit anyway.

Hi!
You would be astounded how many turns you have to turn the engine before it gets fuel! It's so at first.
Are you really sure that the engine gets fuel???
Squirt some fuel into the plug opening and try again and see if it kicks.

When my 26 has fuel dripping out the carb it will start on the first flip.

I'm not so sure, cause now it will start for a split second and then stop. I think I'll try to open the high end valve like suggested above and see what happens.

the High-End has NOTHING to do with starting the engine, it the Low-End you need to open !!

I have a MVVS 35 (pretty much the same engine),, you can get more fuel to pump by putting on a larger diameter Pulse Hose !! (I have proven that fact myself) ,,

if you have to flip the prop for 5 minutes to get fuel in the engine then there IS something wrong somewhere/ and that WILL be the Carb or Fuel Lines or Tank, I need to only flip the prop a good 10 time to hear the engine hissing..

Hi!
Nothing wrong at all ! All MVVS and ZDZ engines are like that. Takes several minutes to get the fuel to the carb if you just choke it! Best way is to have a T-fitting just in front of the carb so you can just quirt in some fuel to the carb...then you can see the fuel coming to the carb when you choke it and then it's easy to start the engine.
