Hi everybody, 3 days ago I bought a duratrax raze st and now it as a big hole in the crankcase because the hole in the connecting rod elongated to the point that the connecting rod knocked on the cranckcase

first read this: this is my first nitro truck but I already runned airplane engines so I am not totaly newb
plus my brother who owns nitro cars for several years helped me with the break in and adjustment of the engine, he knows what he's doing and he never saw a problem like this...

it was running great and suddently started eating plugs because of metal particles from the crankcase

is this a manufacturing defect or did i do something wrong?

here are the pictures...

The brass bushing is gone. That normally happens when the bushing seizes to the crankshaft. Usually, though, the end of the rod is twisted-off and metal is thrown throughout the engine. The rod seizes to the crankshaft because it simply didn't get enough lubrication. The engine was run too lean too soon, or the fuel didn't have enough oil content to begin with.

In your engine's case, the bushing would have been broken into little bits because there's no way the bushing can come out of the rod when the engine's assembled. There's no room. Then, a piece would have become sandwiched between the rod and the case, and the force of the engine turning would have broken-out the side of the case.

Please send it to the service center, and they'll be glad to see how they can help you.

Thank's for the information, I will send the engine for evaluation

but still i am surprised to hear this could have been caused by running the engine too lean, I did not have a temp gun for the break in (ironicaly i bought the temp gun the same day the engine died! lol)

anyway thank's for the input!

It might have made no difference. You can use a temp gun and still run the engine too lean. Temps are not really reliable for engine setting. You have to get the engine running properly by sound and performance and THEN see what temp you're getting. That is a guide to help you know if something's changed, but you cannot use a temp to set the engine. Temps will change from day to day as the weather changes. If you rely on the temperature to properly-set your engine, you'll get shortened engine life and less than reliable performance.
