I recently purchased an ULTRAFLY 13/32 brushless motor. The info provided with this motor states, You must use a brushless, sensorless speed controller. All the more common/ popular ESC's I've looked at ,don't mention anything about being sensorless or not. Is the ULTRAFLY ESC my only option?

Just about any modern ESC will work with your motor as long as it can handle the required current. You would probably have to search hard to find an ESC using sensors to detect rotor position. Modern designs use the motor back EMF to determine which phases to energize.

At one time, brushless motors used in our hobby had sensors built into the motor, and the ESCs were designed to use these sensors when operating the motor. Then sensorless systems entered our hobby, and co-existed for a time with the sensored systems. So it was helpful to know whether an ESC was sensored or sensorless. Now that sensorless technology is practically universal, there's no longer any need to say "sensorless," but out of habit (I suppose) some manufacturers still use the term.

Outside of the R/C world, there are still plenty of sensored brushless motors around including, for example, the motor in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD drive!
