Ah, the xl-5. Where I started my Stampede journey.

Ok well, first things first. You need to get familuar with the truck. Start to scope it out and see the strong and weak points. Also, see how to take it appart. Now, first thing I would do is buy a Rpm front bumper. Blue or black, doesn't matter. This will protect the front of your truck against many crashes that you will have. Next, take out the transmission and replace the differential CASE ONLY with steel ring gears, and the idle gear with steel. This should cost about $15 total, and you can use any kind of grease really. Use thick grease in the differential casing, and marine or car grease in the casing. If you have some extra cash, get bearings/carriers. Don't forget, if Rpm makes it, it's worth having!

Get started with that stuff. Trust me, I know my Rustlers and Pedes.

If RPM makes it, it's worth having, that pretty much sums it up! But I think you'll want RPM front and rear arms near the top of the list. When/if you get new carriers, you will also need new ball bearings. I say this because when I had an XL-5, the stock bushings were smaller than the what the aftermarket RPM carriers need.

I wouldn't add the A-arms. They don't need to be replaced until you break the stock ones, and that's pretty hard to do! Save your cash, you'll be glad when something really needs to be replaced.

Not me. A simple foward to reverse and the Idle gear is stripped. You have to hit something pretty hard to break a A-arm, and there is a chance you might never break it! I only broke one, my dad has never broken any. Plus, when they do break, they are a simple swap. Still don't think it's needed from the start. Things like the bumper can actually SAVE you money. Buying new A-arms before they break is just wasting money.
