I charged my new Intellect 4600mah 7 cell pack at 460mah for over 12 hours. I took it out in my Slash, and got maybe 7 minutes TOPS out of it. I let it cool back down for 6 hours, and when I charged it at 1amp, my charger detected peak at only 2000mah. I ran it down again, and it still only lasted 7-10 minutes of run time. I again let it cool, and charged it again at 1amp, and my charger said it was full at 2200mah. My charger is capable of 7 cells, and It charges all my other batteries perfectly. Could there be a dead cell? Should I warranty this battery, or should I cycle it a few more times to see how it turns out. THanks.

There may be a bad/weak cell , but could also still be cell imbalance. It should be charged at 460 ma for 15 hrs + to be sure.

Should I discharge it down before I do this? I would assume so. What voltage would I be looking at, to be considered a successful discharge for 7 cells?

I'd run it in the truck first so that it is "empty" then do the c/10 charge for 15+ hrs.

If it's possible the rate isn't quite 460 ma then the time should be increased to get about 150% of capacity.

Your peak detecting charger is false peaking. The pack is not "broken in" yet.
Do another constant current charge at 400-500 mAH for around 16 hrs. Discharge and repeat allowing cool-down time between each step.
If you can adjust your peak detector's delta V set it so that it is not quite so sensitive. That might also help.

Is the battery getting hot when the charger shuts off? What is the voltage when is shuts off?

It may also be helpful to list your specific charger and what all your "other batts" are since it does them ok.

After a few cycles, the battery seems to be taking more and more mah. I'm upto around 3500-3800 now from 2000. That's after around 3 cycles. I'm using the Dynamite Prophet Plus LCD charger found here

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN4049

I'm using a mixture of Intellect 4200 and Venom 6 cell stick packs. I wouldn't say the battery was hot, but after a 1c charge, it's definitely warm. I remember somewhere around 10+ volts, off a fresh charge.. but I can't remember for sure.

I had to do this with a couple nimh packs I had received as freebies from my uncle. He had purchased them to use in one of his boats, charged them and put them on his shelf. They sat there for many months and he had never used them. Naturally when I got them they were completely discharged and I had to cycle them about 5 times to get them to start taking a full charge. So far these have been my most reliable packs.

Well I took the 7 cell out today, and ran my slash hard with it. When performance started to degrade noticeably, I pulled the pack out, and noticed that one specific cell at the rear of the pack was 130f while all the other cells were in the 102-109 range. (I have a thermal temp gun) Why would this 1 cell be so much hotter? Could it infact be defective?

more than likely the higher heat in that cell is due to it being the last cell discharged.

Probably the cells are out of balance still. If they are in balance then the hot cell uis the lowest capacity and runs out first.

I charged it today at 2amps, and it peaked at 3580. Still a ways to go, but it's getting better. Should I throw another c/10 at it anytime soon?

That's the best thing you can do for it (15 hrs) if the cells are out of balance. No amount of cycling will balance cells.

If that same cell is getting that much hotter than the others, then it is likely defective and I would return it for a new pack.
