I have been using a Ram 50 On Board Igniter for over a year on one of my planes with a 4 cell battery on my receiver. I tried to switch to a 5 cell battery, but no mater how much I adjust the settings on the igniter the red light indicating power to the glow plug stays on. Does the Ram On Board Igniter only work with a 4 cell battery to the receiver?

I am not sure if your igniter will work with a 5 cell, however, you can always add a voltage regulator to the system. The nice thing about a regulator is that with a 5 cell battery, if one cell goes south on you, the regulator will open up and continue to provide 5.1 – 4.8 volts keeping your airplane under control and letting you replace the bad battery without loosing the whole plane. The other option is to put the regulator on only the igniter however that’s not how I would do it.

Thank you for your reply. I tried a voltage regulator between the battery and receiver ... same results. Then between receiver and igniter ... no change. Switched back to a 4 cell in both of the above configurations ... works perfectly. I have tried with other 5 cell batteries ... no go.
