Couple probably dump ?'s. But here it goes. I have 2 12 volt (7 mah i believe) i want to hook them up so I have 24 volts for my sulivan starter. How do I do this? Do I just hook them up in parallel, please describe. Also when I charge it, will a standard 12V charger charge both of them. Appreciate the help....

G'day Mate,
To get 24 volts from 2 x 12 volt batteries, you need to hook them up in SERIES, the, "+" or red terminal of 1st battery connects with a lead of your choice to the "-" or black terminal of 2nd battery, you will then have a spare + & - terminal, hook your starter to these & you will have 24 volts @ 7 amp/hours.
Your batteries will probably be 7 AH or 7000 Mah.
If you connect them in parrallel, you will get 12 volts, @ 14 amp/hours.
To charge them you will need a 24 volt charger if you leave them hooked up in series, or a 12 volt charger, & charge 1 battery at a time.
BUT, please don't use a standard car battery charger to charge them, or you will over charge them very quickly, & they will be Stuffed. Make sure you use a charger designed for Gell cell batteries, & all will be well.

Ok, just one more ? What about the "-" of the battery number 1?

Here is m question:

Number 1 12 V "+"/red goes to Number 2 "' (black )
Number 1 12 V "-"/black goes to ? ( Does it go to number 2 12V red?)

Number 2 12V "+" goes to starter red or "+" lead/wire
Number 2 12V "-" goes to starter black or "-" lead wire.

Thanx for your help, obviously I'm pretty ignorant when it come to electricity...

I am doing the same thing also. I may need the 24 volts to start a YS110 I hope to have up soon. Hook the two batteries in series for 24 volts. Hook the two batteries in parallel for 12 volt. I made a connector so the battery/ies will charge off the cigar lighter in my car.
Have fun, MikeB

Thanks, I feel stupid, but I'm not sure the exact wiring for hooking it up in series. See above. I'm also trying to figure a way to charge them without having to disconnect wires (I have a 12V charger now, I guess I might have to buy a 24volt charger)....

Took my own advice and it didn't work. Make a simple series connection and charge with a 24v charger. MikeB

Hoping this works and makes sense. Charge at the 12 vdc, run starter off the 24vdc.
Have fun, MikeB

G'day Mate,
READ my 1st post carefully, again, & do exactly what I said, & you will be OK.

I asked the same question awhile back and someone posted this:

I used 12 gauge wire, from Radio Shack

thanks I appreciate the diagram as well.I think 10 or # 12 is very safe given the amps.I also like your pic of the pt 19 .just so happens I own one myself and will fly it with a satio 180 which is another reason for getting more punch with my dynatron.pics are worth a thousand words thanks again..you guys are great!
